Are you serious . Let me guess, next GM brings in his own coach. Too much change in the front office with this club, I'm betting this is approaching record territory.

Another one bites the dust, Nielsen will be looking over his shoulder for the rest of the year. TFC's problem is their lack of attracting top players which is madness as Toronto is a world class city, they need a better scouting team and directors that are respected in the world of soccer or at least North American soccer. It will obviously be a struggle for TFC for a long time yet, but if they can get the wheels in motion right now and bring in a good backroom staff and some proper players it might not be that bad. TFC have a history of bad management and they need to sort it out as they have some very loyal fans who are all too familiar to this kind of ****!

This move was initiated by Tim Leiweke.

Kevin Payne was hired before Tim came in.

See this conference call that was held with TL (Tim Leiweke) and his future plans for the club. Personally I think it was a good move, Kevin Payne apparently did no share TL's vision of the future of TFC so that is why he was released.

-TL makes it sound like he respects KP still, and appreciates his work esp regards to clearing cap space and getting rid of bad contracts.

-KP basically fired because he doesn't share TL's view, I think DPs. KP fired so that new GM can work on DP signings right away.

-TFC is looking for DPs, Italians (though not limited to) and want to make signing for Jan or after WC. Likely 2. Sending people to Europe to work on this already.

-Leiweke is going to be involved in DP signings. New GM expected to deal with other player issues.

-Money to be spent has already been approved by MLSE.

-Earl Cochrane fired. Pat Onstad no longer scout, may be reassigned within TFC.

-New GM must accept Ryan Nelsen as head coach

-Willing to accept a GM who is young, but must be a 'capologist' and prefers someone with previous soccer playing experience. (Lagerwey?) Is in talks with Frank Yallop, among other candidates.

-Committed to build through academy

-Season tickets renewal in Jan. Taking a risk losing season ticket holders; want to be judged by actions, not by words. Understands no amount of marketing (talking) is going to convince TFC fan base.

-Talking with CFL about Argos coming to BMO Field. Working out something so that intimacy of soccer experience is not lost. (retractable seating?)

-Sending out people to look at other teams and how they do business

Toronto will not be able to get a better GM than Payne. Maybe Liewike didn't like the Urruti transfer situation? Who knows. It was clear the team was doomed at the start, it was the first year of Payne's project.

Who the hell is going to come to Toronto when he knows he's just going to get fired in the first 6 months?

Lieweke has some big pull. He was mainly responsible for bringing Beckham and Robbie Keane to LA.

I hate this team.

Pease stop wasting BMO Field and just turn it over to the Argos.

Shameful. I'm almost hoping Garber steps in and the league takes control of the team. You pursue this guy for literally a year and then, what, 3 weeks later trade him off? Insanity.

Garbage like this hurts the entire league, not just TFC.

Honestly, for the sake of the sport in North America, the league ought to just shutter the entire organization.

Jermaine Defoe would probably be a top 3 player in MLS... would be such a good signing

Gilardino would be good too but Defoe is much better

No chance at Lampard I think

Lieweke went ahead and promised playoffs next season ... (I know, yap yap yap, that guy). Looks like Nesta taking over as coach in MTL? Interesting off season awaits.

OT: TFC Discussion Thread

Not sure what happened to the old TFC thread, but the team looks like they've signed Jermain Defoe and Alberto Gilardino...two world-class players for two potentially record deals for the MLS.

Will this be the turning point for TFC, Toronto's worst franchise since its inception?

Well, if true that'd certainly be enough to get me to watch some games this season....certainly no reason to do so under the Payne regime...or the one before that...

Leiweke would score major points by getting this team into the playoffs. There's a huge market for soccer in Toronto they've thus far failed miserably at keeping.

Add the pacy Jermain Defoe with the head skills and timing of Gilardino, and we have the best striking combo in the MLS, on paper.

We obviously still need a really good midfielder to get these guys the ball, but TL has really stepped it up with this recruiting effort. Awesome job!

However, I just read this tweet:

Defoe-Toronto deal was on but yesterday got put on hold presumably coz they're deciding AVB's fate. A new man might want to keep him #COYS

I don't really know who the guy is but he has over 4000 followers and is a writer of some kind. I'm gonna take the wait and see approach I think..

Someone merged it in to the TFC thread. :)

According to latest rumours reported in Italian media, Toronto FC management have agreed with Genoa on having Italian international striker Alberto Gilardino (31) transferred to them, on a 6 million euros payment, after World Cup 2014. Former AC Milan and Fiorentina scorer would earn about 3 million euros a year, but his ultimate approval on the trade is yet to be given.
