Glad to see the guys get a win. They are the team giving the most opportunity to young Canadians which is what the National team needs.
Hope they can get a few more and find some measure of respectability. A young DP signing which is somewhat rare - we'll see if the Spaniard can make a difference.
@AndyGlockner: Wait, WHAT? Dempsey was interested in Toronto as one of three choices, and that club thought it would be better for him to play in the US??!
@GrantWahl: How Seattle's stunning Clint Dempsey deal got done http://t.co/DyqCJg2Qyt
wow. we couldve had dempsey maybe apparently![]()
So Toronto can only get second tier players because its better that they play in the US? Yeah, with that, I am never watching another MLS game. If Canadians only deserve second tier talent according to MLS, then they can have the league for themselves. Joke league
I emailed them a comment essentially saying the above. I know no one will care but it made me feel better. I also said that I wasn't interested in all that "up and coming" player propaganda that they like to say. This team needs a good "name" talent, not some second/third division player that the casual fan has never heard of. I probably would have bought a ticket just to see Dempsey but then again, I'm a big EPL fan and there can't be very many of those, can there?
It's not that Toronto can only get second tier players it's that he was American and therefore would be a better fit in the USA in terms of marketing
well, in their defense, koevermans and frings were bigger names. not beckham or henry big but still fairly big. That's my point. So if the league decides that a player is best served in the US, TFC will never get an opportunity to sign a player with name recognition because it will ALWAYS be better for the league if big name players go to the US. Say Messi wanted to come to the MLS (just an example of a non American big name), do you think it would be ok with MLS if he went to Toronto, Montreal or Vancouver or would they want him in New York or LA? It's now happened twice, that we know of, where the league has determined that TFC shouldn't get a player. However, if its some second tier player from Peru, well then TFC can sign them. Henri, Beckham and Dempsey in the US. Who does TFC get to sign again?
TFC got Maxi Urruti (DP), very excited about this striker and Atalanta accepted TFC's offer for Moralez but he doesn't want to play in Canada.

The only player that they decided was best served in the US was the face of US soccer... not really the complicated to understand. As for Messi, there's really no logical reason why he would be better suited to NY or LA than Toronto or Montreal so that's an irrelevant comparison.
Henry and Beckham signed in the US because they wanted to play in the US just like Frings, Nesta and Di Vaio signed in Canada because they wanted to play in Canada... MLS higher-ups had nothing to do with it.
