I hard disagree. I know you can't argue with taste, but, Pineapple has no place on pizza.

We already have the key injury and are probably also losing a key player. We don't know what will be done to replace that key player. If it is an internal thing next season could be tough.
I think it has been mentioned before (in the What A Season thread?) but winning the PT this year was spectacular. We did it in the toughest Div in the league and with one of the heaviest travel schedules in the league. So missing the PO would be a very big drop but it isn't hard to imagine it happening with the quality of competition in the Central.

We can discuss it now - and again in 3 weeks and then again in 6. Picture could have changed either for better or for worse. We still have 4 pending UFAs and 3 pending RFAs. I'm not worried about the RFAs unless Chevy badly overpays them.
Same goes for 3 of the 4 UFAs. The 4th the worry is that he is gone. He will be a big loss. I don't see a successful transition from that loss. I also don't count Chevy out.I expect Dallas to finish first in the Div. Jets and Avs fight it out for 2nd. Blues and Mammoth fight it out for 4th. I also expect it to be pretty close from 1-5. And the Central should get both WC spots so pretty tough for Jets to miss the PO even if they regress a lot.
That's my take in a nutshell. Why is it wrong to talk about this?

Namestnikov will be another year further away from being a 2C. It has little to do with Cole. If he is all alone on the 2nd line it won't be very good.
Well I did specifically say that if Fly leaves they need to go out and get top 6 type talent that compliments him, so no disagreement that Namestinkov and whoever else they'd promote from the bottom 6 would need to be upgraded.

so suggesting the Jets may go from 1st to missing the playoffs completely, & this is prior to the actual off-season taking place, is not doom-and-gloom? really?
literally the only "view into the Jets' future" that you gave to me at least, & corresponding interaction:
-a bunch of teams may get better and the Jets worse
-apparently Jets have huge injury risk and 1 injury means we can be out
-as a result, Jets are on the outside looking in, and even Utah surpassing us
-ppl point out this is doom and gloom POV
so again how is it not? The Jets coming off a 4th and 1st overall finish and then suggesting all this bad shit will happen to the Jets and bunch of good shit to other teams resulting in the Jets out of the playoffs is not a negative POV?
this isn't a bubble team that has a slim margin of missing vs making the POs. as mentioned, they finished +86 in goal-differential.... a 50% decrease would have them at Colorado's level from last year, a 100+ pt team. Just to get ahead of it, i think they may regress as well as it is difficult to repeat 110-115+ pt seasons, however the Jets have a huge margin b/w regression and missing the POs as you are predicting.

i don't know how you label the Jets getting surpassed by Utah and missing the playoffs, but personally that's hugely negative for a team that has finished 4th and 1st and has survived a variety of injuries over the years.
ppl, well at least i, am calling that out as negative or big doom-and-gloom talk.

Cole's performance may not fall off without Ehlers, but the line's does. Iafallo is a 2RW like Names is a 2C.

I don't think people realized how good we've been in the regular season, the concerns that have been brought up pretty much apply to every single team in the league, I posted the numbers but somehow that was seen as being defensive after "dax's well reasoned case"
we have helle and play some great team defense, there is concern in losing ehlers but using the money we would have paid ehlers on 2 middle six forwards could offset the loss, 1 downgrade on ehlers 1 upgrade on appleton
Yeah, Colorado is capped out and will likely loose some depth upfront in Druin and maybe Wood/Coyle.
Dallas is going to lose depth in Duchene and some other players due to cap reasons. Ditto Edmonton. St. Louis has very little cap flexibility as well.
Unlike those other teams we will have plenty of cap space to address what we lose.
Colorado definitely has to make some sort of move this offseason. I think there was some chatter around Coyle being moved. He has a full NMC though so it will be tough, does he want to be moved? They are apparently also in on Toews but if they sign him they will definitely have to move someone. It will be interesting to see them with a full season of Nelson and Necas though. Depth might take a hit but top 6 should be decent.
Rumours around Dallas moves are all over the place. Robertson is due for a raise and I'm not sure they want to pay it. Marchment could also be on the move. They want to resign Granlund/Duchene as well but it sounds like both are looking at FA. Dallas' future really hinges on what kind of returns they get and who they bring in as replacements. Sounds like they want to recoup the Rantanen assets in any Robertson trade. The interesting part of their outlook is a full season of Rantanen.
St. Louis is probably one of the more interesting cases in the division. Red hot to close out the season, were a damn hard out in the playoffs. Some young guns that really broke out last year and although not a lot of cap to work with they should have a mostly returning roster from TDL onwards. Plus a decent prospect pool with some kids still looking to break in. They honestly scare me more than anyone else as they have some decent vets, some good young guys that broke out and some decent prospects still coming up. They play with a tonne of edge, aren't afraid to go to the tough spots and never quit.
Edmonton has McDrai in a weak division but will it remain weak? Calgary, Anaheim, San Jose and Seattle all have a decent amount of cap and want to improve so we'll see what they do. Vancouver looks like they are in a tailspin with no clear direction though. San Jose seems the most primed out of all of those teams to take some big steps forward next year.
I said it many times it all depends on how the offseason goes. It's going to be interesting to see how a lot of teams handle things. Ehlers is a big loss though if he goes. It changes a lot of things about the team and I'm not confident we find an adequate replacement by next year. Lowry is also a sizable loss to start the year. Signing Toews would provide some optimism but we also can't expect to much yet. Have to see how he looks in TC. I really don't like the looks of Iafallo-Names-Perfetti as our 2nd line right now. If we don't land Toews our 3rd line is likely something along the lines of Nieds-Barron-JAD, maybe Gus in there somewhere. Or one of the prospects steps in but I don't expect them to hit the ground running.
If you don’t think that the thought of the Jets starting the season with the middle six you described is overly negative, I don’t know what to tell you.

If Mason Appleton is the barometer of what you'll become in the NHL based on AHL production, what in the hell happened to Kyle Connor?
Mason played a lot with Petan, Roslovic and Lemieux, who were all excellent producers in the AHL. Chibrikov hasn't played with anyone with that production.
I don't think his cameo in the NHL is any indicator of what he will become, but I could see Chibs out producing Appleton over his career.

I’m incredibly high on Chibrikov. Kid has a motor, plays bigger than he is, has an absolute lethal shot and his points production in the games he’s had, while limited sample size, is intriguing.

True. You mentioned it more than once. I'm being a little more conservative. I'm assuming Chevy doesn't succeed in acquiring any top 6/top 4 talent. The hope is there just not expectation.
I very much doubt he can sign any top 6 FA so it has to be by trade. If by trade we have to give up something to get something, so I don't assume a net gain until I see it.
Perfetti - Namestnikov - Iafallo looks more like a 3rd line to me.
Assuming Apples is let go and while Lowry is out we might have a 3rd line that looks more like a 4th line. Nino - Barron - JAD The 4th line might be Chibrikov - Gus - Ford. That's a 1st line, a 3rd line and two 4th lines.
Losing Ehlers would not be so bad if we weren't already short 1 top 6 player. Now we will be down 2. Add to that missing Lowry for the first 4-6 weeks of the season and we could be in for a rough start. Maybe Chevy does pick up a top 6 player and/or maybe one of the prospects takes a big step. I hope so.
Yeah I'm in the same boat. I've learned not to expect us to do much in free agency. Especially with the wealth of cap space and options open this summer for players and the lack of depth among the free agent market. I'd love to be pleasantly surprised but I'm not going to expect it. I expect we make some decent depth signings. I hope we land Toews.
Whatever we do will more than likely come from a trade of some sort. But having two big holes in the top 6 will not be easy to fill and likely means we will need to move some of our higher end prospects to get it done.
I'd say early on that it looks more like a 1st, 3rd, 4th and AHL 1st line. We really need to improve on that.

Apparently pineapple and anchovies is a great combo too. Haven't tried it yet, but I could see the sweetness of the pineapple pairing well with the saltiness of the anchovies
I have an Italian friend who gets visibly agitated when we talk about this kind of stuff lol

We have been very, very good in the last couple of regular seasons and, to a little lesser extent, this year's PO. Some teams will improve with off-season moves. Some will get worse. Looking at our division I see most teams getting better. Jets getting worse. Neither is written in stone of course.
We can't just assume that Helle will be as good next year as he was last. More likely he is nearly, but not quite, as good as last year. Getting 2 good middle six forwards is not that easy either. And that still leaves us as a 1 line team. Perf - Names - unknown middle 6er is not a 2nd line to inspire confidence.
