SC Backstory: Toronto FC's failed makeover - TSN.ca

10 months ago Toronto FC's makeover was underway, following the additions of three Italian superstars, Lorenzo Insigne, Domenico Criscito and Federico Bernardeschi. The excitement surrounding the team was at an all-time high, but this season has proven that sometimes high expectations can lead to disappointment.
SportsCentre takes a look at how the teams struggles have gotten to this point.

Bob Bradley is clueless but I think he should remain the coach. TFC would remain a hellhole with another former employee on the payroll, if he is let go atm.

He's got experience and not afraid to make major decisions.

The odd man out is definitely Federico Bernardeschi. If he starts next game on the bench and they still play well, we have the ultimate confirmation.

Insigne elevated everyone else around him last game, 2 assists to 2 homegrown Canadians; Kerr and Kosi Thompson.

Soccer legend and newly minted World Cup champion Lionel Messi is set to join Major League Soccer’s Inter Miami CF next season, according to reports from the BBC’s Guillem Balague and soccer news-breaker Fabrizio Romano.

The move for the Argentinian comes after months of speculation of which club he will play for after his eventual departure from France’s Paris Saint-Germain. Other teams reportedly interested in Messi were Barcelona FC and Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hilal.

According to a report from The Athletic, Apple which owns the global streaming rights to MLS games, has gotten “very creative” with discussions about a potential Messi move to the MLS. Apple has discussed offering Messi a share of the revenue generated from new subscribers to MLS Season Pass, the tech giant’s Apple TV+ product to watch games, according to sources briefed on the discussions.

Apple also announced Tuesday that it is producing a documentary on Messi and his World Cup career that will debut on Apple TV+.

That same Athletic report indicated that Adidas, who also sponsors Messi in addition to the MLS, has considered a similar revenue sharing agreement with the soccer star if he came to the MLS.

Apple and Adidas did not immediately respond to requests for comment on this story.

If the reports are accurate, Messi would have turned down an offer from Al-Hilal that would have paid him roughly $428 million per season, the highest per season contract in the history of professional sports.

Messi has a net worth in the hundreds of millions. Last year alone he made $130 million ($65 million in salary, $65 million in endorsements), according to Forbes estimates.

Tonight’s game will be on TSN. Only the second game those of us without Apple+ have been able to watch. Looking forward to see any redeeming qualities this team has at this time.

Observations on the game:

-stadium was 2/3 full. People not engaged like the past

- the team played well enough to win but they found a way to lose the game again. Johnson with an absolutely brutal goal against

-Bernadeschi really careless and sloppy with the ball

-how does Bob Bradley still have a job?????????

My walk from the airport shuttle to the hotel lobby took my breath away. It's bloody hot here. Thank god for beer and an air conditioned stadium.

I'm expecting a shaky start, but the boys should pull this off.
