If he wants 4-5M? He should be extended yesterday.

Not Worth that for a PP specialist? That is exactly what you will have to pay for a PP specialist. If it a great two way, it will be 7-9M.

That is the new pay scale. Unidimentionnal specialist are now getting that type of money. Studs will all gun for PK 9M from now on.

I would easily give Krug 5M per. I love offensive D and would like one on each pairing. You have to pay for offense. If you don't like it, well be stuck with the K.Miller of the world...

My wishful hope is that he signs a Klingberg extension at 4.25M/7y. But ~5M per for 5-6y would be just fine for me.

Then sign Yandle as UFA and try to get Shattenkirk for a boatload of picks/prospect and ice this top-6 next year:

Chara-Yandle
Shattenkirk-C.Miller
Krug-McQuaid
Morrow/Trotman

Would you consider moving Krug in a package to bring back Shattenkirk?

I know I would.

Chara - Shattenkirk
Yandle - McQuaid
Seidenberg - C.Miller/Morrow/Trotman.

But I like your train of thought to go after Shattenkirk in a trade and Yandle as a UFA.

Maatta had a real nice rookie year, but has done nothing since because of injuries. Don't see how he's comparable to Krug at all? PIT paid him for potential. If he develops great deal for them. If not, they overpaid.

Just sent it out as food for thought.

Trying to gauge what Krug could potentially get.

Now Coburn @ 3.7m

Not sure how to gauge Krug's value now. Would've thought a guy like Coburn would have gotten a lot more. On the open market he surely would have I suppose. Krug will definitely be looking in the 4.5-5m range now. Perhaps even more. :(

Why? I think 3.7-4 makes sense for a Coburn. He's 31, he's an 18 pt a year guy who anchors the PK and plays zero PP. He's like a slightly less good Kyle Quincy, and gets slightly less money than Kyle Quincy. They got it right with that deal.

Krug's 40 pt pedigree consistently puts him in a short list of 20-30 names each year. I don't see a snowball's chance in hell that Krug's number starts with a 4. It's 5+. And potentially arbitration depending on where Krug feels he should be in that range.

I think this paints an interesting picture for a salary comparable, and I think it's fair to shrug off Krug's low goal total this year and look at what he's probably most likely to produce going forward:

Shot suppression is really what it comes down to and why Krug is viewed for what he is. But the upside from his other attributes pulls him up value-wise.

I'm getting worried about Krug. Not sure I'd pay him more than $4M.

Nope.He not worth it.I would be after Shattenkirk in summer.Bet Carlo there next year too. That will save cash on defence in another spot. That kid is going to be a good shutdown guy type.

Why? Is he still not making good reads and passes? Still hitting the net at the same rate as the last two years? Or is he suddenly going to be a career sub 2% shooter

Sabres fan curious as to value of Krug.
What would need to be added to
Jake McCabe for the rights to Krug?
Or what price would Bruins fans balk
at if Buffalo signed him to an offer sheet.

No to McCabe.

Bruins say "all yours" at 1st, 2nd, 3rd compensation level (5.5 over 5 years).

Why is this written like a poem? Would love Ristolainen, but I understand that's not realistic. He's very tough to judge in terms of value, as you can see from the above posts. He's played pretty well as a Top 4, but his offense has suffered with the added defensive responsibility. I think he's best suited as 3rd LHD that can be the power play point and doesn't need to play huge minutes in defensive situations. I don't think you can win a championship with him as a top 4(I hope I'm wrong), but he's great as a tweener. You'll definitely find people that disagree with me, but that's just my opinion. I love what he does, just think he's a big miscast with this current team.

I think this whole "his offense has suffered with increased responsibility" is horse ****, TBH. He actually has a career high in points despite the shot not going in as much and is going to finish the season with 30-40 more shots than his previous career high. He is shooting 1.3%. His career norm is 5%. Some of that is luck, some of that might be the finger. He is clearly a top 4D. He ain't a #2D, which is what Boston is asking him to be right now.

I'm not really looking at the numbers. I understand he hasn't put too many goals in, but I know the assists are not there. I also think the higher number of points may be due to the PP time he receives. The eye test tells me that he has not been nearly as effective as he was in the previous two seasons. He's not nearly as aggressive, which could be a good thing, but I don't think he's been the player we saw in past seasons.

He has more even strength assists than either of his last 2 years. So.....the assists are there? His powerplay time has also always been high.

2013 - 214 Minutes - 13 assists
2014 - 223 Minutes - 12 assists
2015 - 281 Minutes - 18 assists
