That's where I'm at too --although I understand the Werenski argument as well.

I'm with you too. I just think McAvoy has played at a high level and his hockey IQ is pretty good. Has shown his ability in the AHL albeit that he hasn't been down there that long. Still, if Krug is going to be out. I think the kid can step in and not falter. We take our licks with Kevan and McQuaid. We can with Charlie.

Plus if all else fails? He gains good experience.

Put em all in JFK. Get Bjork signed. Go crazy.

McAvoy has to go in, although he is really young, who is better equipped to run our PP with Krug on. The pairings I would use are:

Chara-Carlo
McAvoy-K. Miller
McQuaid- Liles/Morrow

Hopefully it's not bad.

But honestly? I roll with McAvoy. I don't care if it's risky. I do it. I try it. Go all in. We're prob not gonna win the cup, so take a chance

That's exactly why you wouldn't burn a year. McAvoy can play in the AHL playoffs. Call up Grzelcyk

Liles, Gryz, or Colin are better options to take that spot on the PP.

As one of the league’s more talented offensive defensemen, Torey Krug could have helped the Bruins push the pace through the landmines the Senators scattered in the neutral zone.

Krug, however, was limited to 2:32 of ice time in Thursday’s 2-1 shootout loss to Ottawa at TD Garden. After tangling with Viktor Stalberg along the boards in the offensive zone, Krug left the game with a lower-body injury in the first period. His status is unknown.

“We missed him,†coach Bruce Cassidy said.

(An occasional series in which the Globe commutes to work with a Boston athlete)

Bruins defenseman Torey Krug still has a chip on his shoulder. He’s 5 feet 9 inches and was never chosen in the NHL Draft. This year, his fourth full season, he has posted career highs in points (51) and assists (43). He’s not afraid to carry the puck end-to-end or to check a larger opponent.

The 25-year-old Krug wears No. 47 to honor Bruins greats Bobby Orr (who wore 4) and Ray Bourque (who wore 7, then 77). The Michigan native says he loves Boston so much that he lives here year-round.

On this morning, he maneuvers his Porsche Cayenne from his home in the North End to the Bruins’ spiffy new Warrior Ice Arena practice facility in Brighton.

That's a little rough, no? Some people are just excited to see McAvoy in the system.

That said, I see Liles or Morrow taking Krug's spot if he's out for the long term.

Not really, and I am a big fan of this kid.

But first, he's currently on a ATO meaning he cannot play for us right now unless we sign him and burn a year off his ELC. Having him cost controlled for 3 years might be huge.

Second, he's played two pro games in his entire career. I know some want to compare him to Krug, but Krug had training camp and an entire year of AHL play before he came up for the Bruins.

Third, there have been some questions about his development and some scouts have labeled this last season by him as a bit of a mixed bag. I am expecting him to need a year in the AHL

So expecting this kid to make a difference right now is not only naive but also foolish because it would burn a year off his ELC for 4 games?

Bad idea.

Not necessarily disagreeing with you but I have to suspect the question or conversation would be with coaches/Mngt, "would burning his year and adding him to the roster for the last game and playoffs make the B`s stronger and be better for his future development"?

I don`t have any answer to that question and while I`m typically not one who likes rushing a kid or burning a year when you don`t have to, if he`s the best D-man the B`s have as a Krug option, they might have to do it.

I know Miller and Morrow have NHL experience but neither of them has any playoff experience either so this might not be as easy of a decision as I would have thought

The money managers in the organization will surely be pounding their calculators to see what the contracts look like in a few years to see if this team will likely even be in a position to be able to allow for JFK and possibly McAvoy burn a year only to have to sign them again in 2, the B`s do have Cross down in Providence who might also be an option for call up?

Not to mention Charlie is a right handed shot and Krug plays the left side

So it wasn't enough of it in the Rask thread that if you give criticism of a player you are a hater and it has to carry over into here now?

There are people here that include Krug in every trade proposal they come up with, despite the kid putting up 39 points or better every year in the NHL (51 this year).

I think that qualifies as a "hater".

I still can`t believe I read some of the things I do about this guy, just can`t understand it

I do respect those who have legit concerns and speak to aspects of his game that they consider a bit worrisome (most often it`s battling against bigger bodies in his own zone) and I get that, I don`t agree he`s outmatched nearly as much as some suggest he is but at least it`s not a ridiculous point

Others though? Just don`t see the value this guy adds to this lineup in more ways than those of which can be found on the stat line

Thankfully we've seen Liles, and both Millers play on both sides of the defense.

I don't necessarily like it, but I think we're going to see the following on Saturday.

Chara - Carlo
Liles - McQuaid
C. Miller - K.Miller

If McAvoy played the left side I think he would get the call, but that's not the case.

Personally I'd get Morrow out there Saturday for some game action before the playoffs. I don't like the idea of having him start a playoff game rusty if it became necessary.

I disagree, Liles and Gryz have popguns for a shot, Miller can shoot it though. Don't see why their is such angst over burning a year of McAvoy's eligibility.

This is exactly how I see it playing out.

His absence was very apparent immediately after his injury. Ottawa shut us down in the neutral zone and we could not transition. Pray to god he just sprained something

Not a big fan of his defensive game ,but man are they going to miss his offence game and moving the puck up ice, might just have put a nail in any hope they had for any kind off playoff run if he can't play.

I used to harp on his defensive game, but he's been a rock all year back there. One of the most dependable d-men we've had all season long.
