He got excellent results regardless of his classification the 2 years prior . Pacing for 40 ish pts w no pp time and solid 2 way play seems a cut above fringe NHLer category .
No, he was a healthy scratch a lot of those nights. His defensive game was pretty abysmal. He wasn't missing games for injury.

That was the big difference last year. Bigger even than the goals. He improved to the point that he was our second best defender. But there is a stark, stark contrast between the Raddysh of last season and the Raddysh of seasons prior. They weren't even the same player.

Players that don’t get by on their speed generally age better than players who do. The fact that he’s slow is arguably a positive, it means he’s adapted to the league defensively with high IQ and solid positioning. Unlike Rielly for example whose wheels fell off and he’s now barely NHL caliber defensively.

Offensively he just needs to be a bomb from the point. The leafs PP has historically been very predictable with Reilly and Marner always looking to pass. It’s easy to clog the passing lanes when 2/5 players on the ice aren’t a threat to score. Raddysh being a shot threat should spread PKs, opening up passing lanes and allowing more freedom offensively.

It’s not like he’s playing with scrubs in Toronto vs Tampa. He’ll be on a PP1 with some combination of AM, Nylander, McKenna, Knies, Cowan and/or JT.
Yes and no. He's not fast, but he's fast enough to get where he needs to be. He will likely lose that ability at some point in the next few (maybe as many as 5?) years. He'll still have the bomb of a shot, but he might go back to being a defensive liability at some point. For the next year or two, I think Toronto got themselves a legit #1. Definitely one of the top 32 defensemen in the league. Probably in the 20-25 range.

I like laughing at the Leafs as much as anyone, but I think this deal will be very good for them. Their PP is gonna be scary good.

He played 73 and 82 games the 2 years prior . Couldn’t have been getting scratched very often ..

As many as 9 times. Probably 6 to 9, and 6 times last season before he heated up. He was the least likely guy to have this kind of emergence, but it happened. It's pretty ridiculous to say he was playing at anything remotely close to this level for the two years prior. Like not even in the same stratosphere.

That doesn't take anything away from what he did do, and what he will likely do moving forward. But to act like there was any kind of consistency to it--when he was scratched for something like 6 of the first 20 games THIS PAST SEASON--is just making things up.

Usually late bloomers are goalies who play into their late 30s so....no. Your sample size of guys having career years is too small to make any conclusions from but I admire people who have strong opinions based on nothing. We Leaf fans see a lot of that.
A lot of leafs fans have strong feelings based on nothing? Coool
Hey it might work out great. Time will tell

Just say ok and let the Leafs fans have their fun and write their own narratives
