Man Toronto is driving then into no man’s land without a good reason, can’t wait!

That roster isn’t close to competinh and they’ll have to give the worst contract of the offseason?
They aren't contenders again yet but are not as far as you would think assuming this is true.

Knies-Matthews-Nylander
Mckenna-JT-Cowan

Is a pretty stacked top six.

McCabe-Tanev
OEL-Raddysh
Rielly-Villeneuve
Andrae

Is a much better defense than what they iced for most of the season. They also still have a lot of cap to spend, some more Marlies to graduate into their bottom 6 and passable goaltending in Stolarz and Hildeby/Akhtyamov. That is almost certainly a playoff team.

Gonna go with 7.55 per.

I kind of like this for the Leafs, but have some issues.
They clearly are not gonna rebuild, they have no 1st rounders for the next few years, might as well just go all out and try to buy the best UFA Targets you can find.
This UFA class is Awful, but he is a good player and should absolutely help toronto.

The really interesting part is going to be the Length, will they actually give him 8 years? That would be pretty crazy, considering his age.

Also the Risk comes that he only had 1 elite productive season.
But this is no doubt going to help toronto regardless if he is overpaid or not, they drastically need D help.

Still it's pretty desperate, but don't have much of a choice since they can't rebuild with matthews and nylander and not having any good draft picks for years.

The reason is they don't have first round picks. No man's land is between competing and tanking, but tanking isn't a thing they can do.

This will almost certainly fail to compete, but "delaying the rebuild" to try and make the playoffs isn't a big deal when you can't rebuild.

Toronto is the one team this does make sense for because of that, plus the small chance that when they do have to blow this up, Raddysh will be worth some futures, and if he isn't, his contract will be in the range where they have cap to spare anyways.

When you don't own your firsts for the next two years rebuilding was never going to be an option. If the team has to blow it up in 2 years, Raddysh should be moveable unless his play falls off hard. In that case we are rebuilding and likely don't need the cap space.
