Good luck to Brodes. Good player with a quality personality to match (does a lot of charity work). He will be missed and I'm glad he ended up on another Canadian team.

Good to know about Brodie. Followed him a bit.

As a Leaf fan that lived out in Calgary for a while and went to the bars there many moons ago... flames fans were always good... even if I had a Leaf Jersey on the night Sundin scored his 500th just across the blue line over kippers shoulder.

Seriously had flames fans chirping but laughing... great fans. Okay I'll stop now ha.

You apparently don’t know what it’s like in spite of your claims. Kessel was loved by fans, a very, very small portion of the media had a hate on for him. Guys like Feschuk and Steve Simmonds, but then dummies from across the country take those articles and claim it’s ALL media, and ALL fans.

Fact is turnovers happen to everyone, and nobody is trashing anyone. You’re just pushing a false narrative because you think you know what it’s like here.

Thats just not true regardless of your homerism defending. You may not notice since you're from Toronto specifically but even when you're outside of Toronto/Montreal, literally all their media is spoon fed into us by TSN, Sportsnet, social media, reporters etc the list goes on. The reputation of the Toronto market didn't just come out of nowhere one day, it was built and earned through years. Theres been so much evidence of it on this very board. I'm not even saying this is a Toronto specific problem, literally any big market suffers from this as well.

You've also not watched Brodie as much as Flames fans, Brodie is really underrated and solid but he built a reputation for turning over the puck in the neutral zone too often.

I dont understand how this address the leafs need for a dman that can actually clear the crease and win board battles.

Very happy to have Brodie on the Leafs, been hoping for it for years. He's from my home town and I have his signed jersey. Super excited to have him and I'm sure he will be an important piece for our defense.

So basically, The Leafs got the D man they tried to trade Kadri for a year ago. Dubas got his guy.

I also did not know Brodie is a Ontario boy who grew up a 2 hour drive from Toronto. Looks like another Leafs fan came home to play.

I am really liking this signing. Awesome job Dubas!

Tanev > Brodie. He seems like the perfect fit.
Tanev was more high risk/reward given his injury history. Brodie is a more stable signing. This contract won’t ever be a steal, but very little chance of it going sideways for the Leafs.

Always liked the city of Calgary and Flames fans. They are by far the most tolerable fan base for a Leafs fan to have a conversation with in Western Canada.

Never understood the unrelenting hatred that Vancouver, Edmonton, and Winnipeg fans have with Toronto. There are of course a minority of Flames fans who irrationally hate Toronto but young or Working Class would be the best way to describe those types.

I agree for the most part.

I hear a lot of Leafs fans hate Edmonton and Vancouver.... maybe Winnipeg next... but Calgary you don't seem to hear as much about... and after living there... I can say most fans in calgary in a hockey conversation are very reasonable which was surprising out west. They don't like the Leafs necessarily but they can talk without the bias. I appreciated it.

Not sure what to think about this one. I always thought of Brodie as a second pair guy but the reaction here seems to suggest he could play with Reilly. Maybe I just haven’t seen him enough. Flames fans what are the chances that we are in for another Barrie type letdown?
