Confirmed Trade: [TOR/STL/MIN] O'Reilly, Acciari, Pillar to TOR; Abramov, Gaudette, ‘23 1st, ‘23 3rd, ‘24 2nd to STL; ‘25 4th to MIN

Yeah, it's not like we're the Islanders looking to add a 1C in trade. We have Matthews and Tavares ahead of ROR and would just need ROR to be a better version of Kerfoot at 3C or moonlighting on wing on the top two lines and we're in good shape. Have a Conn Smythe voice in the room and Acciari to give us some sandpaper and real personality on the 4th line.

Adding ROR, Acciari and possibly Knies once they graduate, the Leafs have just gotten one full line deeper meaning when healthy you won't even necessarily see Aston-Reese, Steeves, Simmonds, Anderson, McCann and the like unless they wanted to dress them.

Exactly right. We're not asking ROR to be a top line forward, we're asking for him to be the best damn third line centre in the league, which I think is beyond question now. He's going to force other teams to play their third line against him where he'll out match them, or force their 1st line against him which will leave the top line to run wild.

This is a very savvy trade, and if ROR decides to pull a Gio and sign cheap for a couple more seasons, it's going to look even better.

This is a fine move, but Dubas has done this before to no avail. He did acquire Muzzin a few years ago, a SC winner himself, but that did not move the needle. I am concerned that Dubas is counting on a core that just doesn't have "it". O'Reilly can have another great effort in the first round, but it's still up to the core 4 to carry this team.

What happened to Dubas not being willing to trade a 1st for a rental?

That aside, I think it makes sense for the Leafs, and I like the return for St.Louis and Minny as well. Solid trade all-around.

He knows if he doesn't make it past thr first round this year he's finished.

Bet his career on Matt Murray, now he's making desperate trades.

He bet his career on Murray, even though Samsonov has played more and has been solid? How does that even make sense? That's also ignoring the fact that he'd get hired pretty quickly by another team if he's canned.

And how is this trade desperate exactly? Contending teams always trade picks for players at the deadline, how is this now a problem? Some of you are so desperate.

A live thread for fans of other hockey teams to assault the Leafs.

You can see the fear all over this place.

Dubas got ROR/Acciari without giving up their top prospects, and now they are worried that they'll do more with who's left. Toronto's prospect pool goes beyond Knies and Robertson.

Time is running out...for your team.

Samsonov was brought in to be a backup. He's played more because Dubas' big move was trading for Murray, who was clearly supposed to be the starter. It was a desperate trade, and a bad trade.

I dont think that a gm who lucked into drafting matthews and has failed to win a round despite having one of the most talented teams in the nhl is going to be sought after as a gm again.

Maybe as a stats guy. But never again as a gm

He didn't draft Matthews. And agree to disagree.

I see no problem with Toronto giving up their future for rentals that can't push them past the first round.
still own their 2024 and 2025 1st so I mean its not that big of a loss. figured you would be more worried about what the teams in your own division do. wont have to worry about Toronto till the 3rd round and thats if they get through TB and BOS

It's settled. Every other team in the NHL better get fitted for diapers. This team will be hard to beat and nobody wants any part of them in the playoffs.

Samsonov wasn't brought in as the backup, it was a 1A 1B tandem situation and now he's the presumptive playoff starter

Good GM'S aquire goaltending depth, Dubas did and it's paying off for him

No it was a very good team with a core in it's prime trying to win cup, I'd expect any GM to swing big in that situation

He didn't draft Matthews and he's going to be wanted, for all the crap he gets at least you can make a logical argument for what he's doing

More than I can say for some GM's

Same as they did when they had Kadri. You’d figure at least with the year O’Reilly is having.
It not just O

Exactly. Why is it so hard for the people that hate everything about Toronto to understand that with this one trade the leafs have significantly improved their bottom 6. Something that everyone was saying was their biggest weakness,

When we are the most obnoxious you've ever seen in a few months after beating Tampa, I want people to remember how many first round "jokes" were in this thread. We are very overdue for shoving those jokes back down people's throats.

Got help y'all if we actually get within a sniff of the cup or even win it

This trade is going to turn out terrible for them if they don’t do damage in the post season. And with Tampa and Boston practically locked in as their first two opponents there’s a good chance everyone is laughing at Toronto again come April.

Murray/Samsonov vs Vasey? Lol good f***ing luck.

This reeks of a desperate move from a GM who has spent his entire tenure not understanding where his teams weaknesses are.
Making the team better is desperate? It’s quite literally his job lol

The reported price is two seconds for Barbashev which is reasonable and the Leafs have none of those until 2026 and no first next year. As for your prospects I'd rather have a single random 2d round pick and let our scouts pick with it than anyone you have besides Knies.
Not sure where you got your info about draft picks owned but you're very wrong.

or even win it
We'll all be banned and this site will flourish like the flower everyone knows it is without Leaf fans

Both teams walk away much stronger from their objectives. For Toronto they gain a top 6 center who definitely can make a huge difference
For st Louis they managed to accumulate between Toronto and New York lots of high draft picks.

As a chicago fan I'm not impressed with Kyle especially when this year's draft is filled with lots of promising talent.

I can't even understand how cringey this is...

You want to beat your chest about winning one hypothetical round....Even if Tor does beat Tampa but falters and loses badly or embarassingly in the 2nd round, i don't think much will change about the narrative.
