Mad about what?

Mad about him throwing money around like we have it to spare, mad that he honestly thinks he can just moneyball the league on minimum deals even though they havent made it out of the first round in 5 years. Im not saying overpay wingers in free agency, im saying we dont need to be spending 3.8 on a tandem goalie.

As a pair I imagine the tandem is one of the cheaper in the league.
Lots of time until the season starts to finalize the roster. Let it play out.

lol no he is not an upgrade from Freddie. Freddie handled a very large workload for several years prior to this year and played at a high level doing so. Mrazek is a backup. Campbell is a backup. Dubas showing again that he has no idea how to evaluate goalies. Freddie>Mrazek and it’s not close.

Ouch, that's a bad take.

The rest of the league doesnt have half the cap in 4 forwards, you cant play by the logic of other teams who dont have a top heavy cap structure.

This guy pays holl 2 million after holl sat in the press box all year, the fact that it become good value doesnt mean he was worth 2 million.

Then he signs dermott who was a 7th D to a raise of 1.5

And now in need of a first line lw and a 3rd line center he goes out and throws a bag at a goalie whos name im not trying to spell.

Boy is an assistant gm through and through.

Jaro Halak at $1.5m fir one year also would have been a MUCH better signing than Mrazek.

Halak looked like trash most of last year and he's declining at 36. This is probably the best goalie signing we could get. Anything less than Mrazek would be bringing Reimer back or a Martin Jones *yikes*.

Bot the Leafs and Canes are decent defensively so this is an obvious upgrade just looking at the numbers.

Last year:

Shots Against/60:
Andersen: 28.27
Mrazek: 26.65

Expected Goals/60:
Andersen: 2.31
Mrazek: 2.59

GAA:
Andersen: 2.96
Mrazek: 2.06

Save%:
Andersen: .895 (one of the worst in the league)
Mrazek: .923 (one of the better in the league)

Mrazek has some shady injury history but Freddie has a bit of that history too and is older.

Solid deal, especially considering what Andersen got. On paper one of the biggest upgrades any team has made so far but lets wait to see how it plays out. Was sick of waiting for Andersen to "bounce back" or whatever anyways. GL to him though.

He's almost certainly a huge upgrade on what Freddy gave us last year.

Its spelt exactly like it sounds. But yeah, **** Dubas for signing a competent goaltender that username "BooDubasBoo" can't spell.

At least i was smart enough not to attempt it.

"It was probably the best goalie signing we could get" or the guy can actually think outside the box like he was advertised to do instead of overpaying a goalie day 1 in ufa.

We just spent roughly half our cap space to upgrade Campbell, who played more than well enough to be the 1a.

Its not mrazek vs freddy though, its mrazek vs campbell. We didnt need to pay a goalie starting goalie money.

Campbell is a great story but how confident are you in him playing a #1 workload? Its not that he cant get #1 results, its that his body doesn't seem to hold up to the grind.

Mrazek seems to be in the same boat so it might be perfect for them to share the duties this year and have the team confident in whoever we throw in net. Friggin Hutch had a .919 save% last year as the team has really solidified defensively so lets hope it comes together for them and they both stay healthy.

Exactly.

For a team crippled by the salary cap the absolute LAST thing Dubas should have done is give a mediocre back up goalie $3.8m for three years.

Pretty good deal. Has had one of the best goals saved above average the last few years. Should do well with a tandem with Jack

Dubas spent the majority of our space to upgrade where we're strong at, ignoring the massive flaws the team currently has. The ptsd from the rest of his shit contracts though make people side with him when a deal sounds semi reasonable.

Mrazek is fine. A little higher than I wanted but whatever.

I know we couldn't afford it but I'm really jealous of that Grubauer deal. Always like him.

Grubs was the perfect guy to stay away from. Not saying he is a bad goalie (hes solid) but no starter had an easier workload last year than he did and we would be buying high.

Mrazek is an okay goalie but failed with a much better team and way better defensive team the last 3 years.
That same team let him walk and instead signed Freddy, interesting.

All 3 goalies have not produced in playoffs.

In regular season before last year Freddy was above average and won many games carrying the team.
I don't see these 2 doing anywhere near that well and the defense is still lousy so that will not help either.

Back into a tough division instead of a bit of a gift last year in the Canadian division this tandem will make it touch and go for a playoff spot and even if we sneak in another very quick exit.

Dubas just wasted another Matthews year and more regression instead of progression.
Lol this is an awful post. You lost credibility when you said defence is lousy.

Are you suggesting 3.8 mill is starting goalie money? It has not been for like 10 years.

3.8 mill is probably the right range for a guy like Mrazek and the role he will fill. When we need to re-sign Campbell next year (if we do), he likely gets a similar contract himself.

If Woll, Kallgren, or Scott figure things out and become an NHL option for us, it won't be hard to get some value out of Mrazek's (or Campbell's future) contract.

My boy kyle had 1 good year of defense and now believes he doesnt need forwards.

3.8 on a goalie when your first line left wing is maybe kerfoot if you decide not to have a 3rd line center and nobody else is mad?
Quite a mature user name.

This is insurance for Campbell. Not hard to figure out.
