I don't like the Mrazek deal personally. Expensive for a guy coming off injury whose mostly been mediocre to below average the last few years. I'd still pick him over Holtby though, he's been bad for quite some time now.

They could've got a comparable and in my opinion better guy in Raanta for less money and term.

Just catching up this morning and... yikes. I was thinking Mrazek would come around ~$3M and the three-years is a bit of a risk for a goalie who has been up and down throughout his career.

Looking at the other contracts which have been signed, Halak's one-year deal looks solid. Reimer at $2.25M would have been solid. There was always the option to acquire Kuemper too. As is, I think I would have preferred all those options. Mrazek is probably the best of the three, but an extra $1.5M+ in cap space could have been additional forward upgrade.

Anyways, thinking positively, Mrazek is good enough to serve as a #1B behind Campbell and should be an upgrade of what Andersen brought these two years.

Reactions: NHL WAR
Mrazek seems to be in the better spot in his career arc but obviously comes with injury issues and the dreaded third year of that contract is sort of awkward to stick handle. Holtby probably had a lower floor but is more disposable.

What if Campbell actually emerges as a high end goalie and vastly outperforms Mrazek? Leafs won’t have the cap to keep him and will have challenges disposing of Mrazek.

Anyway I’m pretty well resigned to the idea that that I don’t think on the same wavelength as the organization so this doesn’t bother me too much.

That’s exactly my point. Not in the moment but after that scuffle you go after that guy and let him know that’s not happening again.
Im disappointed in how easily players can scare our core.
As dumb as Kadri is for getting suspended you’ll never see Washington give up on Wilson or Boston give up on Marchand. I’d rather have to calm a guy down than have to wake him up to get into the war. It seems like scrappy players are the first ones gone in Toronto
Kadri
Kapanen
Moore
Grundstrom
Marchment
Hallander

Not a huge fan of this. Seems like it is at once too much of a commitment (in both term and dollars) and not enough of a reward (Mrazek has minimal upside and is basically a middle-of-the-road tandem guy).

In the 275 games he has played in with 250 starts he has a career 2.59 GAA & .911 sv%.

The most games he has started in any single season is 49 way back in 2015-16 season.

He is built for a tandum role where he runs hot and cold but can push a starter for playing time when he is on his game.

I think we're going to see a lot of guesses next year as to who will be in net on any given game day.

Jaro Halak at $1.5m fir one year also would have been a MUCH better signing than Mrazek.

There's always teams desperate for goalies, just look at some of the signings today. Unless he completely imploads I don't think it's going to be too big of a deal to move him if Jack steps up as a true #1.

I've seen a lot of talk of injuries but Mrazek has consistently managed at least a tandem level game load throughout his career. Last season is an outlier and the vast majority of his missed time was due to thumb surgery from a collision, not really a recurring problem.

If this goes well, between the two of Mrazek and Campbell, we break even with our goaltending over the last 4-5 years. If it doesn't this team is f***ed.

man, the talking heads talking about the leafs defense being bad and the canes defense being good, where every single number shows that the Leafs were better defensively than the canes, but the canes goaltending was much better than the leafs.

Martin Jones for one year at $2m also would have been a much better signing instead of locking up Mrazek to a 3yr boat anchor.

Epic fail #454

He was the 3rd best out there in UFA. And getting paid less than 3rd best.

My boy kyle had 1 good year of defense and now believes he doesnt need forwards.

3.8 on a goalie when your first line left wing is maybe kerfoot if you decide not to have a 3rd line center and nobody else is mad?

Term and $ too high. At best, he’s average. Injury history and no ceiling…flvery meh signing

For possible goalie targets, he has one of the higher HDSV% over the last few years. Think he was one of the better UFA goalies. Interested to see what the others get.

Mad about what?

So they brought in a goalie with a perhaps slightly higher upside, but who is quite inconsistent and more injured. Don't see how this is really worth the $0.7m in saving.
Is Fred still considered consistent?

Honestly, I think it's best for Fred to move on either way. It wouldn't have made sense for him to come back. Go to a good team, less pressure and less demons in the closet. It's a better spot to rebuild a career.
