You think the Lindholm trade is a home run and this trade was bad with no sample size....

Incorrect. I think Giordano is a strong 3rd pair defenseman I'd have liked in Boston for a 3rd to bump Reilly from the roster. Toronto paid a reasonable trade deadline price considering the second player added....

Of course the Lindholm trade was a home run. That is a different topic.

I wouldn't trade a 1st for 2 2nds. Just based on the likely hood if becoming a useful NHL player that's an L.

I thinkt he value is fair, this trade works for both teams.
I think two 2nds ≈ one 1st, assuming we're talking about teams in the same range. I think two 2nds + 3rd is worth more than a 1st.

I think we're splitting hairs though. Leafs and Seattle both do fine here. If I have to pick a winner, I'd say Leafs by a small margin, but both teams benefit.

I see it more breaking down like this:
Gio for a 2nd
50% retention worth an additional 2nd
Blackwell for a 3rd

Also, IMO, a 1st is worth more than two 2nds. Especially where the Leafs will be drafting. You can typically still get a "high end" player who slips to the 20-25 pick range, but you're going to have to hope for a bit of a diamond in the rough to land a high end player with a pick in the 50+ range (which is where the 2nds will be).
That's... Almost exactly what I said.

We can agree to disagree on the second part. It's obviously not black and white. Some drafts are deeper than others.

Gio is a 3rd pairing D? Interesting take. Not even sure how much better Lindholm is.

Dubas sheds multiple picks for old man Gio and a 4th liner, and Leaf fans predictably come out of the wood work acting like they've just added prime Scott Neidermayer and Guy Carbonneau. Nick Foligno trade version 2.0. At least Dubas didn't blow a 1st this year for another one and done postseason.
I'm starting to think half the posters on this website are bots lmao, it's like these posts are auto-generated

I don't agree with you pick valuation, but agree the trade was fair

Great trade by the Leafs. Getting a great without giving up their 1st. Not sure if that was their finale move. Still have to fix the goalie situation

No Team in the League would do two 2nd for a 1st (before they know the pick numbers)

Like it a lot for Toronto. He and Blackwell are confident guys and play a ballsy game. Need more of that when the spotlights up there get even brighter

Great trade for Toronto. Blackwell is a very underrated piece here, he has some really great metrics and should be a nice 4th line energy guy for them.

that's a decent price for Toronto

if they can somehow ship out Mrazek with a 1st for MAF, they would be set

I thought so last year after they got Foligno. But then Matthews and Marner combined for 1 goal in the playoffs. If they do the same this year, it's not going to matter much. There is hope though, with Marner possibly scoring 30 this season meaning that he becomes a better shooting threat. Again, the Leafs have been losing series not because they were missing complimentary pieces but because the stars have not produced enough.

Most people were assuming a 1st + before the trade was finalized.

Now that it's 2 2nds and a 3rd for Giordano with retention + Blackwell, the Leafs are stupid?

Can't win on the main boards

I just laugh at them all. The Leafs CLEARLY did very well on this trade. Many 1st round picks become NHLers, but the percentage drops a lot by the 2nd round, and it's way down for the 3rd round. So yes, they sent away some futures, but the odds of these picks becoming NHLers is very low. And we shored up the blueline with a very good defensive guy and added a pest. WIN.
