They've been in a "win now" mode for a while - and haven't won anything at all.
Anything short of a finals appearance is a disaster at this point.

If it pushes Holl down the lineup I think I'd have to like it if I were a Leafs fan. Gio is a great dman, didn't win that Norris by accident. Gio-Brodie was one of the best pairings in the league for years. Blackwell is a nice add too, not sure why Seattle was willing to trade him.

Good value overall. I'd have wanted the Bruins to trade a 3rd for Giordano but Toronto also adds a 4th liner. Overpayment by a single non-1st pick is hardly the end of the world at the trade deadline.

Is it what Toronto needed? To be determined.

You realize players often improve from their draft position, right? The Leafs also drafted Dermott in the 2nd round and he was traded for a 3rd round today. Knies' stock has increased since last summer.

Nice try. But Knies is a more known commodity now and is trending extremely well.

You could flip that around and talk about how it could also be a Travis Dermott who was a second round pick as well. Or any other second round pick that doesn’t turn into anything. Leafs are high on Knies and he’s been terrific this season.

That's...a weaker than expected return...though as a caveat, Giordano is also has the ancient/could fall off a cliff at any time risk attached to him. He's still a good player, though. We'll see.

Golly gee...that is an optimistic take Mr Rogers. Gio may be good offensively (Reilly?) but what does he add defensively where the Laffs have mega problems!
