Phil Kessel Trade Tree.

September 18th 2009 - Leafs trade 2010 1st round pick (#2 overall Tyler Seguin), 2011 1st round pick (#9 overall Dougie Hamilton) and 2010 second round pick (#32nd overall Jared Knight) for Phil Kessel

July 1st 2015 - Leafs trade Phil Kessel along with Tyler Biggs, Tim Erixon and a 2016 2nd round pick (Kasper Bjorkqvist) for Scott Harrington, Kasperi Kapanen, 2016 1st round pick (Sam Steel), 2016 3rd round pick (JD Greenway)

Scott Harrington tree

Scott Harrington + conditional 5th for Kerby Rychel

then

Kerby Rychel + Rinat Valiev + 2018 2nd round pick (Jacob Olofsson) for Kyle Baun and Tomas Plekanec

Kyle Baun is no longer with our club after a short stint with the marlies, Plekanec had a solid playoff run with 4 points in 7 games amongst our top scorers but then left to sign a PTO with Montreal later ending up back in Brno.

Kasper Kapanen Tree

Kasper Kapanen + Jesper Lindgren + Pontus Aberg for 15th overall pick, Filip Hallander, Evan Rodrigues and David Warsofsky

Evan Rodrigues is an RFA I wonder if he resigns, Warsofsky will be on the Ahl team for another year, Filip Hallander is a great prospect and the 15th overall pick will become one of Braiden Schneider, Braiden Guhle, Dylan Holloway, Conor Zary, Seth Jarvis, etc.

1st round pick

1st round pick (Sam Steel) + 2nd round pick (Maxime Comtois) for Frederik Andersen.

Fredrik Andersen has been a reliable starting goal keeper for the past few years. My main issue is he will let in bad goals at bad times. But overall still a good goalie that puts up better numbers then most starters around the league.

Remaining Assets
- Frederik Andersen
- JD Greenway
- Filip Hallander
- 15th overall 1st round pick (One of Braiden Schneider, Braiden Guhle, Dylan Holloway, Conor Zary, Seth Jarvis, or Noel Gunler)
- Evan Rodrigues
- David Warsofsky

That took a while but there you go.

-------------------------------------

On a side note I love this Kapanen deal from a leafs perspective.

Hallander is an extremely interesting prospect. He was ranked as the penguins 3rd best prospect. He's a great skater, he plays both centre and wing. He's strong on the forecheck and the back check.

A lot of good options at our pick, a first for Kapanen is already an overpayment.

Rodrigues could be a good hardworking fourth liner for us. He looked very good for the sabres two years ago.
You forgot Spaling and how he was traded to Sharks for a 2nd rounder.

He was a healthy scratch because he was late/missed a morning practice, pretty sure it wasn't the only issue which is why he was scratched

oh right i completely forgot about that thing. someone had posted in the previous thread that kappy apparently said something about keefe in the media; i googled couldn't find it

Not really sure why fans are so pumped up to try and get a guy like Manson. Pretty much tailor made as a guy Leaf fans will dislike IMO.

Solid defensive player but his closest comparable this year on the Leafs (and maybe the league) is Ceci except Ceci had better defensive numbers.

I think hes better than Ceci and had a bit of a down year but I would look elsewhere.

This is why I can't stand the Toronto media. They say how Dubas needed to get more under the salary cap which he did today and Damien Cox is complaining about the value of the trade for the Leafs.

Just ignore him. Damian is still probably looking to hype Genie Bouchard as the next Canadian star in Tennis. He might be upset she didn't become one.

Always loved and respected the way Kappy repped our city. He'll be missed and I hope he flourishes on Pittsburgh. Another casualty of the exceptional greed of our core.
You can cheer for Pittsburgh if you miss Kappy.
Also the last sentence is wrong.

You're so triggered!

I was just watching Pierre LeBrun on That's Hockey and he said Dubas offered Kapanen to Carolina in return for the Leafs 2020 1st round pick they got for buying out Patrick Marleau and they obviously said no to that.

Pittsburgh always loved Kapanen. His main issue here was he had no confidence in scoring, and he was hard to play with, near the end he'd try to do everything himself, but he did bring some fights when he had to.

As mentioned by @Cor, Mirtle mentioned that Engvall, Kerfoot, Johnsson and Andersen are being dangled to teams.

Why would canes want to trade a 13th overall pick for kapanen? they didn't even give into Aho; until Aho signed the offersheet. canes management don't bend easily

What the hell is Cox talking about? there have been rumors about Kaps being traded dating back to last season. Maybe Dubas was waiting until he got a deal he liked....and now he did? You dont just trade or not sign assets because they may not be in your long term plans.

I may not be a big fan of Dubas results...but im not pissed he signed him only to trade him the following offseason.
It's like I just said how the some people in the Toronto media like Cox complain the Leafs need to fix their salary cap issues and when Dubas does that it's a bad trade getting rid of Kapanen.

My best guess is because they were interested in Kapanen before Dubas re-signed him to that 3 year contract and he wanted to see if they still wanted him today.

That’s interesting. Or is Pierre just pumping up what a great deal Dubas just made.

I think this is an alright trade that gets us some cap relief that we desperately need.

Kapanen is what he is, a 40-50 point player who can help out the PK. He lacks the intensity that's needed for playoff success, and after watching his playoff performance this year, I'm not sad to see him go.

However, we just got worse today, not better - so I hope Dubas has a lot more up his sleeve.

of course canes were interested in both nylander/kapanen; but kapenen is definitely not worth the 13th overall. Canes can draft or use it to get a lot better value than kapanen

That’s tempting, probably will ask Ducks to add the Boston 1St rounder and it is a very even deal on both sides.

If you trade Johnsson to Carolina for Morgan Geekie and Janne Kuokannen, you wind up with a fixed defense core, dangerous foreard core and a completely revamped and re-stocked, near NHL ready, prospect pool

Hyman / Matthews / Marner
Mikheyev / Tavares / Rackell
Robertson/ Engvall / Comtois
Clifford / Spezza / Barabanov
Gauthier

Reilly / Petriangelo
Muzzin / Manson
Lehtonen / Holl
Sandin

Prospects
Morgan Geekie
Janne Kuokannen
Maxime Comtois
Filip Hallander
Return for Dermott
Return for Kerfoot

No Brainer, IMO.
