Leafs need to save their assets to address the middle of the ice. Someone ideally with term who can be 3C this run and take over 2C next year

Honestly, to me it's really just Kampf's deal that is the issue here. I'd consider it more if you made it something like:

Penguins trade Bunting at 50% and Puljujarvi
Leafs trade Jarnkrok, Robertson, 2025 2nd and 2026 3rd

But I also like Jarnkrok and would be willing to gamble on him even with his recent surgery. Adding on Kampf's remaining 3 year deal is an absolute killer that I'd want compensated for, but taking it out makes it more easy to stomach.

2C with term that Tor can fit with their 1 mill in cap space.

Sounds like a VERY expensive piece

Also, if Jarnkrok, Kampf and Robertson are the type of assets you want to use to acquire said piece, yikes

Mirtle said the Leafs didn't have a single conversation about an extension in Toronto when he was an UFA. Granted that was pre-Tre but I think he wore out his welcome here.

No to the OP proposal with the biggest issue being too many roster players coming back to Pittsburgh. We can't take on 3 roster players.

Bunting for Robertson+Jarnkork+3rd might be more realistic.

Might be because of the leafs not having the 4.5 million in cap he ended up getting, from the 1.9 he was on.
Wasn’t it during the flat cap or 1 million cap increases /year, that he signed also.

I count cap space as assets too. I am saying there is no room to add Bunting. Save the cap space and assets for what you need to do. Leafs have lots of good prospects as they have had for years before. Cowan, Danford, Grebenkin, Minten, Chadwick, 1st 2026 I've just listed several A prospects varying from almost NHL ready to a few years away. They have assets to make deals.

Leafs don't need more wingers... that's the last thing that they should be spending assets on.

Actually, it's premature to really know what the MAIN need is... it might be 3C, unless Minten or Domi step up.... and if it's not 3C, it's probably a RD partner for Rielly... man, I've only been saying that for a decade it feels like.

No interest whatsoever

Bunting shrinks come playoff time and I’m not seeing anything that we don’t already have in Puljujarvi

It’s a nice deal in terms of getting off cap dump Jarnkrok and overpayment kampf but no thanks

Why wouldn’t the Leafs just flex their deep pockets in free agency depending on who shakes loose? Tavares might need to take a back seat though. You wouldn’t want the Leafs to be in on Sam Bennett if he hits FA?

A Kadri return might also be an option.

It's an option if it comes to that. But every year is a wasted year, try to win this year too.

To be fair, at that point you could very much argue he was a liability with the refs. Lots of yapping and a lot of calls went against him for it.

Seems like he's gotten over that problem a bit.
