This should at least give a good idea about Marner. No way he makes for than Matthews and Tavares. I still thinks he gets 10-10.5. Unless he goes insane and gets 100pts
Hey, thanks man!!
Yes he willCan we have som e clarification please. Will he be a UFA at the end of this deal?
These contracts give an unfair advantage to some teams. Ridiculous
it depends... you need 7 years in the NHL (24 games per min if I recall correctly) or the age of 27 y/oWhat is everyone talking about saying that this takes him to UFA?
I thought UFA was after his 3rd contract for hitting age 27.
This contract does neither of those.
Wrong. Pillow boy signed with Leafs not the other way around.
Nylander at 7M is a joke haha.
Mathews at second highest AAV who hasn’t cracked 70 points, for 5 years. Lol.
Gave an arm and a leg for Muzzin.
But no, he’s been great.
I didn't know 20 years was in 5 years. Shit.11.634M will look like a discount in 20 years
Paying Matthews an extra $2-$2.5 million a year is worth getting those 3 extra years of control, so I'm not sure why McKenzie is painting the term as a positive. I would have rather had the 3 extra years of Matthews at a stupid cap hit instead of paying him what he should have gotten on an 8 year deal for 5 years.
It will be a lockout . But because of the players . Not a strike because that would mean the owners let them play without a cba which they won’t do because they would strike right before playoffs again.Expecting lockouts based on contracts isn’t how this works. I would see a strike being more of an issue. The owners don’t care. 50% of revenue is 50% no matter how the players divide up their share.
3-yearsThe hate in this thread is intoxicating!! After a decade of watching the Leafs be the toilet bowl of the league, i'm going to sit back and enjoy the next 5 years.
I'm in the same boat. Matthew's is an elite player but he got everything he possibly could have wanted with this deal. Dubas had better have a plan to move some money out because moving forward, he still has to sign Marner. As a Leaf fan:
I love Matthews, kid is legit
That said, I hate this contract.
Seems like Matthews got a high AAV with a sweetheart deal that takes him right to UFA. We lost on both fronts IMO.
If he wanted a five year deal it should have been under 10. If he wanted to touch 12M AAV it should have been for 8 years.
You can support as many teams as you wish but don’t call yourself a Leafs fan call yourself a fair weather supporter.Oh piss off with this BS. You can support multiple teams I am a Leaf fan first and foremost been one my entire life and my family has been Leaf fans. It's a **** contract no matter how you put it.
When he signed for 8 years, didn't they just come off a playoff run? Things only went south afterwards didn't they?
that's true, RFA dman deals have been much more reasonable than forwards and particularly centers recently though, and the Leafs have Marleau's contract expiring after next year plus presumably cap inflationthing is Dermott isn't going to make 800k forever.
If he becomes a great contributor, he's gonna need a significant raise after next year.
Just like Reilly will need essentially double the money in 3-years and Andersen with command probably a 50% raise at minimum in 2-years.
If Matthews went off for 1.5 PPG over 4 rounds like he could?
That's an extra million right there
If you want to boast about how short-sighted you are, be my guest.Whoa! Guy is on a hot streak! Really makes up for the first 19 games that he had 3 points.
You love good hockey players getting paid. Odd fetishes.I'm lovin' it. I really can't wait to see how much money they have tied up to so few players after the dust has settled.
I dont think its a bad deal, and likely its going to become more commonplace...Players seem less likely to want to lose out on any potential money to be earned...By locking in at a fixed rate for 8 seasons...That being said the trade market will start to be alot more busyThey don't get all the signing bonuses in the 1st year, just on July 1st of that year. So its like $10-million up front once per year (or whatever the signing bonuses are, I haven't seen the structure).
I’d take Matthews and his contract over Eichel’s and his any day. I imagine most GMs would do the same.
