I mean who cares really? Not like the Leafs will be a contender next season anyway. He'll be fun to watch i guess

I thought the Leafs management was supposed to be good now....:laugh::laugh:

Well I guess Lou hasn't been any good since the 04-05 lockout.

Yeah we're definitely ****ed now with this anchor of a contract.. 2.5m??? Oh god how will we pay Matthews!! /s

Great deal in comparison to some of the contracts signed today.

Would have been happier with 2 years. Not thrilled, not horrified. I think the hope from Leaf management is that the cap rises in years 3 and/or 4. Could be dicey by then if he starts wearing down.

At least it's for only 4 years. Leafs don't need to worry about the 2.5m cap hit to hinder them from re-signing their important players.

Think he'll be a protector of sorts with all the young guys, could see the reasons behind it.

Don't know why people are harping on it. This is a great deal. Love his game.

Player we needed for sure but can't say I'm thrilled by the deal. At least we have lots of cap. Happy we stayed away from the "big names" this year

4 years and 2.5 million per too much, but I can put up with it, just please don't sign Russell

How is Martin anywhere close to the other 2?

Not a bad deal, probably 500k overpaid but with the crazy money going out today this isn't the worst that could've happened.

That's true he's not even as good as those guys. But the pickings are slim for Toronto UFA signings over the last decade.

Not sure why this move is getting so much hate. 4th line fighters, who are decent at hockey get paid. It's that simple. Plus it's someone to protect the kids. Smart move IMO.

There aren't many AHL guys just sitting there ready to play the NHL 4th line role anywhere near as good as Martin does. Leafs need a player like him with all the skilled teenagers on the way.

I love the Leaf fans that said you can't give Stamkos 10 million per, you can't overpay him by 2 million a year....

This is the garbage you get otherwise, overpaying 4th liners, this summer has sucked, Andersen was handed too much term, every draft pick not named Matthews was brutal and Matt Martin is Colton Orr 2.0.

The honeymoon is ending with this management.
