Marchment isn't much use since he isn't an NHLer nor does he look like he'll be one.
I’m not opposed to the value in a vacuum but more so about Dubas’ philosophy.

This point has probably been made already, but considering the Leafs are already flawed because they are too small and soft, adding another small and soft player seems to be almost doubling down on your problems instead of trying to address them.
He's a solid player, but the Leafs seem to already have a ton of players like him. Malgin seems to be more of what they already have too much of.
It's too bad this is the only trade we're allowed to make this year and haven't been heavily rumored to be moving a scoring winger for a D.

The Leafs' stars are certainly on the soft side, but are their depth players any softer than the Pens? Clifford, Hyman, Muzzin and Holl are chippy by today's standards. Muzzin throws heavier hits than anyone on Pittsburgh. Clifford could beat the crap out anyone on the Penguins roster in a fight. This point has probably been made already, but considering the Leafs are already flawed because they are too small and soft, adding another small and soft player seems to be almost doubling down on your problems instead of trying to address them.

Sheldon Dries has only played one game this season, and he is a buzzsaw (not a finesse player). Mitchell Stephens is more of a penalty killer. Andrew Agozzino is well-rounded and has an edge, though I would rather have someone who could be relied on to fight. Not the greatest examples that you have given.Pittsburgh, Tampa and Colorado are arguably three of the five best teams in the league right now and they don't think twice about running small skilled players like Dominik Simon, Andrew Agozzino, Yanni Gourde, Mitchell Stephens, T.J. Tynan, Sheldon Dries, etc etc on their fourth lines. And I'm talking tiny, some of the guys listed there are under 5'10 just like Malgin. But somehow the Leafs are the only team that get criticism for this and better yet it's cited as one of the reasons they're not as good as expected.
The NHL is radically different than it was even five years ago. Small and skilled now beats the hell out of big and unskilled throughout your lineup.

You can't criticize the Leafs roster for being soft (which they sure as hell are) when Pittsburgh is on par with them. The Leafs have decent resilience to the physicality of the Bruins/Caps; their defense is just beyond mediocre.
Becuase Malgin sucks?Given there is a small chance Malgin works out in Toronto why exactly did the Panthers make this trade? It’s not like they’re competing for the Leafs for the last playoff spot in the division or anything...
My thoughts exactly...is Malgin better than Bracco or even Nic Petan?Bad trade for the leafs, another small forward and get just another in the way of bringing up guys like korshkov. Who actually has size. If they wanted another small forward bring up Bracco.
Malgin is an astute trojan horse trap designed by Tallon that will instill the "zizanie" in the Toronto locker room.Given there is a small chance Malgin works out in Toronto why exactly did the Panthers make this trade? I don't get this for the Panthers . Malgin is an NHL player i don't think Marchment is .
