Might be the most interesting case study of a Hockey player ever. Can't carry a pair, down right bad when his partner is just a solid guy. But our him with an star?

Just checked the highlights. Good, hard-fought win despite our injuries and vs. one of the hottest goalies in the league. Lankinen had something like a 10 away game winning streak going before this, pretty sure they would've mentioned it on the broadcast though.

I want whatever Freddy is having... he looks really good. I legit think he should be playing in OT over an ailing JEE. He's good defensively, pretty good on the dot, skating much better, and his confidence with the puck has done a 180 from last year. If he wasn't weighed down by Trennion .... I thought it was funny on the 3 on 1, when he looked to him, who was in perfect position with an offhand angle to a wide open net, went "Nope", and shot instead.
Intense game holy moly. Really hope there are no injuries out of this one. While it is fun to watch you cannot have too many of these games early in the season. Injuries play such a big role in this league.
Thought the Wild played pretty bad hockey in the first with a lot of sloppy passes and fumbled pucks. Much better in the second where it also felt like they drew energy from all the small squabbles and battles along the ice. The officials also let them play which was kind of unusual. In light of this it did not surprise me they let the trip of Kaprizov go in OT. It fit the line they called the game all evening.
OT was wild with mistakes on every side. Rossi giveaway (after a bad pass into his skates) immediately followed by the game winner was a good reminder just how close this game and most of the last few Wild wins have been. Carter mentioned it during the start of the game: the Wild do not score enough goals and while this will work for a while at some point it will catch up to us. The team needs to put the puck into the net more consistently pretty soon.
This is nitpicking on a high level though. The team is still rolling, Gus is still on top of his game, Kap is still scoring almost like he wants to. Confidence is sky high and as long as that is the case this team will keep on winning games.

Yeah but they are all tight games that could have and at some point probably will go the other way. Call it luck, PDO or statistics but very good teams over a whole season have scored more goals on average than the wild are scoring right now. They win the games yes but it’s still only about one third of the season done. The sample size is still somewhat small.
With last years Gus in net, this game would've been a clear loss as many of the close wins we've had so far this season.
As long as Gus is playing on his current "vazina-trophy-level" the wild are gonna have the chance to win almost every game. If Gus loses a gear, they probably won't win those close games anymore.

All this proves is they've scored enough goals to have won the games they've played so far. If there is any slip in goaltending, they'll start losing those games instead. They're not winning by a comfortable margin, as evidenced by being 1st in points and point% in the standings, but 5th in goal differential and regulation wins. That's still very good, but it points to a likely slight regression as the year goes on. I would be very surprised if they win the Presidents Trophy without scoring more goals per game than they have so far.
57special said it best a couple weeks ago: I paraphrase, the Wild are good, but aren't as good as their record.

If goaltending regresses to the mean, and scoring stays the same; at that point they aren't scoring enough.

Sure, you're taking a logic based approach to the phrase, where others are taking a future-risk based approach. We're all saying the same base thing, I think, just differently.
