Don't really see why Dallas would give up Honka just to move Niemi/Lehtonen.

Stars are not gonna give away Honka just to trade one the goalies . The contracts aren't that long and Honka is way too important going forward .

Can't trade him unless someone is offering a young-ish star player in return .

Kapanen for Honka straight across. Kapanen has star potential and is a little better as a prospect, but D hold more value so IMO it evens out.

I believe this is where JVR gets offered

Plus the cap dump. Ideally the leafs wouldn't trade Kapanen but they are desperate for D prospects and defenders in general

An established Star player .

Our defense is terrible at moving the puck we can't trade our best puck moving prospect for anything else than a sure thing and even that might not be wise with how bad our defense is at playing the puck right now.

Leafs fan saying yes! We help the stars get out from under a contract and the cost is very good D prospect. Can't imagine Stars fans will ever go for this but the reality of these type of trades is that the fan base is never happy. Look at CHI shipping out Teravainen.

Except Nill already didn't trade Honka to fix the goaltending once and already let Enroth walk in favor of Niemi once.

Stars are not in the same situation as Chicago. We don't have to trade one the goaltenders. Hell this trade make the goalie situation much worse. Enroth is much worse than either ( had him before ) and Lehtonen would now be the undisputed #1 again which is a terrible idea with how inconsistent he is.

I don't like the tandem thing but having 2 meh starters is better than having a meh starter and bad backup . We had that for years and it forced us to play Lehtonen way too much even when he sucked.

Well obviously you'd be adding to Honka then.

Both of those statements are false.

Try again.

That's your opinion, it doesn't make it false. Kapanen is better than most of HF gives him credit for. He is a surefire second line winger with a chance of becoming a first line winger.

Honka is a really good offensive defenseman who is small. Not sure where his ceiling is but seems likely to be a 3 or 4 offensive D.

Honka isn't worth an established star player without a significant add or adds, there's no incentive for the other team to deal a impact guy for a prospect who could be an impact guy one for one - takes on risk without potential of reward

We're in the same boat with Kapanen, he's not worth an established star on his own. One-for-ones would be limited to similar upside, similar risk returns

That's fine if you're not dealing Honka unless you get overpaid, that probably isn't out there until he's established in the NHL though

Really makes no sense for anyone. We can live with Enroth, we just signed the guy :shakehead, we are not desperate for D prospects because we are rebuilding and can draft some. We also have a decent prospect for either side down on the Marlies honing their craft. Trading our best non roster prospect for a D seems premature, even rash right now, especially taking a cap dump to do it. We can draft a D next year with our top pick so this is not essential to do now.

Statements like this are exactly why your opinion is false.

There's absolutely no way in hell Kapanen is a surefire Top 6 forward. The kid struggled a tonne when he was in the NHL for his brief stint and to this point he hasn't shown much in the AHL either.

Calling Honka a small offensive Dman is another example of why your opinion is false. He's 6"0 and almost 200 pounds. That's not small(Not big either, pretty average). He's also much more well rounded then you seem to think he is.

This is such a typical post from a Leafs fan. Your prospects are the ones to be surefire Top 6 players every single time despite not showing anything to suggest this is true. While the other teams prospect is filled with imaginary question marks to his game.

I never said Honka was worth an established star i said it was the only way it would be justifiable to trade Honka for Dallas.

Too many of our defenseman handle the puck like handgrenades currently. Honka had a strong pre-season as well and should've made the team but nope ... instead we're carrying Oleksiak.

The Stars don't want to move Honka, and the Leafs already have a player very similar to him in Connor Carrick. This makes no sense for either team.

My opinion is not false. Opinions are opinions not facts.

Struggled for 9 games as a 19 year old while most other 19 year olds are playing junior?

42 pts in 66 AHL games while being 19/early 20?

People think Kapanen isn't a good prospect because of his numbers but realistically kids his age are usually still in junior. What he's been doing is pretty impressive to me. I'd bank on him being at least a second line winger.
