Yep

It just promotes the same cycle over and over again. We need guys that want to be here and taking a small paycut to do so. Otherwise move on.

We need to breed passion not entitlement
I would like to live in your fantasy world.

Hes going to decline faster than Brodie
Have you watched him play? He easily has two or three good years in him. Whatever happens after that is irrelevant.

You don't need to. Just need to join another fan base
Athletes are the same everywhere. They are all trying to get as much money as they can, as they should.

Domi literally just signed a team friendly contract today. There's a difference between getting a good pay day and taking your team to the cleaners

Tanev is signing his last contract. Of course he is going to try to get as much as he can while he has leverage. It's fantasy-land stuff to think otherwise. Why on Earth does Chris Tanev owe the Leafs anything?

Domis deal isn’t team friendly at all

It’s fair, definitely not team friendly

Then move on. I like Tanev. Hes a Toronto boy. But we live in a salary cap era. And we need smart contracts, not desperate ones

He’s almost certainly in the top 10% of cap hits vs production if you consider only UFA deals. He can play anywhere from line 1 wing to line 3 centre. He’s a fantastic asset for that price.

I agree. We get rinsed way too often

If Domi plays like he did in the second half of the year when Marner was injured, then this will be a really good deal for the Leafs imo

Tanev was the story of the series that included Mackinnon, Rantanen, Makar, Robertson, and Heiskanen after shutting down Colorado’s top line.

He is an UFA with pretty much every team interested. Obviously you’d love to sign him for a lower AAV, but 5m is reasonable with an increasing cap.

He's from Toronto. If he wants to play here, then it's his team. So it's either a team friendly contract or move on. 5 M AAV is insane.

Can't believe people are arguing about paying him this much. Short memories...

How is it insane? Durzi just got 6m per. Bertuzzi is rumoured to sign elsewhere for 5m per. Zadorov is rumoured to be signing for around 6m per on a long term deal.

Move on to what exactly?

We need a top 4RD, how much do you think Montour, Roy etc are going to get

So instead of complaining I want you to tell me who this top 4RD that's going to make less than 5M is

Leafs are the ones under pressure because they are pursuing him. Tanev doesn't have to do anything. He can get a good gig somewhere else.
