I'm just stuck on the pain part.

I get it, hockey and basketball are different but it has to be extremely alarming that Landeskog cannot skate pain free while Lonzo Ball has been reportedly pain free for a very long time and everything is back to normal for him.
Honest question, have we heard he's still having pain skating? When was the last report of that?

In order for the Avs to be considered "favorites" or "contenders" we would definitely need a Captain in playoffs. When was a last time that NHL team was contending and had no Captain. I am not going to feel sorry if Sakic fires CMac for trading our future Captain to Buffalo. You just can't make these massive mistakes.

Would be awesome if this is building up to some kind of WWE style shock return in game 1 of the playoffs. Like the last episode of the documentary series airs right before game one, and ends with a live shot of Landy getting on his gear to skate out for warm-ups. In the mean time everyone just plays down the possibility of return, kind of like C-Mac did in his last presser. Meanwhile this whole thing is a work to get a massive pop.

A man can dream.

Gabe is back this playoffs I'm more certain the more this all unfolds.

Edit to add: the NHL is entertainment business. And what they're doing now is maximising the entertainment which leads to maximizing the business.

I have been thinking this as well. All the sudden light being shone on his process and information being released with some detail and the media blitz all while the Avs are a notoriously tight-lipped org definitely means something. I lean towards it meaning he'll be back for the playoffs, or at least that's the plan for everyone involved. It's great theater and now hey look there's the documentary and lots of media access/interaction with Gabe.

It feels like maybe a lot of the skating and things he did out of the public eye were probably being held away from people because they were being filmed for this documentary. It also feels like this is going to get people watching and waiting for what would be one of the most emotional returns the sport has ever seen. I also think about classic documentary tricks where they set up some struggle and accentuate it later with a big payoff (which would be the Captain coming back for the playoffs) at the end. I think of the Anvil doc where they show empty halls and outdoor areas like no one showed up but at the end they show them filled with screaming fans.

I think we are being told a lot just by the fact that this coming out now. I really really hope it means he's going to get another shot, but it also could mean it's been accepted that he's done and this is a nice piece of closure on the whole process. I really don't think there's any in between on this, I think it means there's finally an answer to the question and we have to stick around to see.

Landeskog plans to finish recovery 'no matter how long it takes'

Honestly to me it seems like the opposite. After all this stuff coming out over the last 24 hours, it seems like he's donezo

I actually feel the reason all this media about Gabe is coming out is to ease people into the possibility that hes not

(and by people I mean the casuals not all of us nerds on here)
