JT shouldn’t be a number two centre moving forward. He would be a third line winger on a cup contender and should be paid in the $4-5M range for three years max and if they flame out in the first round again the Leafs may want to use that money elsewhere

He’s 25th in points amongst centers, 11th in goals, last time I looked he was in the top 10 in faceoffs won% but you think that’s not a 2nd line center. You’re correct he’d still be a 1st line center on a few teams.

The way I see it another JT gives us another point per game guy with 24 goals so far. 2 JT’s 48 (probably good for another 10 each before the season ends) so 68 goals 160 points. I like it.

You really still care about these guys regular season stats ? He had two points in a seven game series against the Bruins in the playoffs last season. He was invisible.

His 5 on 5 numbers have faltered half his points almost are on the PP and he's centering a good line and in my opinion too much and I really feel he's slowing down and only going to be worse in 2-3 years.

Well that’s not really logical at all. They are both capable players. If you don’t want to pay Schenns acquisition cost that’s understandable (and I agree) but if he was free like Tavares is? Then your reasoning isn’t tied to anything other than emotion. You still need to replace him with a second line C who does what he does and scores the goals he does, and you aren’t getting that at a 7M price on July 1st. Not even close. So you can just be like this guy sucks I don’t want him if you want to, but with no context as to what the alternative is it just comes off as whiny baby nonsense. You can’t be like he’s not worth the money but then turn around when asked how you would spend that money and say well I don’t know that’s not my problem. And if it’s not a free agent, then you have to factor in acquisition cost too. These players don’t grow on trees. There’s a finite amount of them and not easily acquire able. You have to at least partially exist in the real world here. If you refuse to pay Tavares 7M if that’s his line, not only are we in massive trouble replacing that production, it ripples upward and down the lineup. We badly need a 3C and we are going to let our 2c walk for nothing when we are getting good value? It’s insane thinking unless we are just blowing this thing up (and if that’s your desire then I don’t know what to tell you).
