Heh. He got bashed a lot for that dumb signing, now he gets out of it for a pretty small price. That's a good thing.
Is it really a good thing? I've been pro Dubas but I'm slipping. This trade admits signing Mrazek to a contract like he did was bad. Ok it happens. This trade also signifies we lose another number 1 pick because of our cap situation. How long can we keep losing number 1 picks and not winning Cups? Eventually this catches up to the Leafs. Either Matthews, Marner, or Willie sign elsewhere ( were stuck with JT). And we keep losing number and number two picks with deadline draft trades. WE can't even get out of the first round let alone win a damn Cup. Get a goalie. Thankfully it won't be Mrazek.

Go look at what it cost to dump Kassian if you want to see what a bad cap dump looks like

Ok. Maybe you should look at the players signing good deals to see what that looks like

At least Kassian played for Oilers for 5 years. Mrazek signs for three, plays 1 terrible year. Kassian wasn't a FA on a top position. Mrazek was

That was a bad signing from day 1..... But i guess you are right

U people lol
The guy took a chance on a goalie that could be had at a reasonable cap hit due to our cap situation

Anyways lambert, that everyone here wants, sounds like will still be there when we pick

The spin is laughable. Of course several names on the Leafs' draft list will be crossed out before they pick at 38. They are at the point of treating us like we're really really stupid. Mrazek's contract had to go to have the cap space to pay whoever tends the goal in 2022-23.

i dont mind the trade.but we are probs going to get another average goalie with that money, rinse and repeat

It is not dropping 13 spots in the draft, the point is that he gave this contract less than 12 months ago knowing what he is going to get, an often injured okay goalie. It cost the team he is managing dropping 13 spots in a draft bc he took a gamble thinking Petr is better than he had shown, where not a lot of GM took.

So what would you like him to do in this situation? Take it on the chin and run with Mrazek anyways for the next two years? I bet you dont even know the players left on the draft board between 25 and 38...

Honestly Dubas has done good work finding value in the second round.. if he thinks he can get the same value at 38 than 25, than effectively he’s moved Mrazek for nothing. BUT he has to hit on those picks because who he misses out on will be a lingering factor over his head.

I also dislike that he’s had to undo his mistakes from last offseason. He needs to sort his shit out on who he signs this off season.

Never forget that we were gonna have to gut our farm system to get rid of Nick Ritchie and Petr Mrazek lmao

Same people still complaining.

News flash - every GM makes mistakes. Good GM’s realize them and corrects them for little impact.

Thats what Dubas did.

Its not difficult to understand

I love it.

We were (and still are) f***ed in goal, this has been apparent for a while now.

But also f***ed with Mrazek for a couple more years at what, $3.5m or something?

I also really appreciate having a GM that is willing to admit and fix his mistakes for the benefit of the team.

Some older GM's might have too much pride for that.

I just really hope this isn't to free up cap to sign Campbell for more and longer than he's worth.

I have no idea where we're getting quality goaltending. Hope this means we can keep Willy though, or let's us use him as a trade chip for something better now that there's quite a bit more cap all of a sudden.

And I feel like this draft is such a crap shoot, 25th.....38th? Who cares? Throw some numbers in a fish bowl and pick one out.

We didn't lose a number 1 pick - we went from 25 to 38 in a draft where there's little difference between those two spots. This was demonstrated when Chicago just used that 25th to take a guy who was mocked at 38:

Also, in general...why is anyone pro-Dubas or anti-Dubas? That shit just biases your opinion of every move. Use your common sense and knowledge to judge a trade on its own merits. On it's merits, this is a good trade. Look at the Kassian deal to see what a comparable dump costs.

It cost the team "only" 13 spots, in a draft where there's lots of equal quality players in this section of the draft.

You can criticize him for making a mistake, and that's totally fine.

But let's also give him credit for acknowledging his mistake & doing enough to get out of that mistake at a very, very, very reasonable cost (comparable = that Kassian trade LOL).

Stop being level headed and logical, man
