Good riddance!

I haven't skated in 25 years and never played goal, but I could probably replicate what Mrazek did for us

Great trade. :thumbu:

There was a lot of paranoia that we we're going to give up much more.

After the Dion trade, I discovered that you should hold off on going into full panic mode until a transaction is completed.

Really good trade - Draft is deep, I'm not worried.

Just pray we can get one of Chelsey, Warren, Sykora or even Hutson tomorrow.

I've been critical of Dubas in the past, but overall, I think he did fairly well his UFA signings last off season. It's difficult to hit on all of them.

That being said, this will be his last kick at the can in Toronto if he doesn't acquire the right goaltender(s) this summer.
Thing is tho, Bunting fell into his lap because he's a local, if Dubas is GM of Buffalo or Ottawa he doesn't get that advantage. It was an awful FA last year for him and we've been paying to fix his mistakes ever since.

Pretty decent price to get rid of that contract.

Then you can also say players fall in Florida teams' laps due to better tax situations? No credit to those GMs either then for shrewd signings.

So, can we update the ledger on last off-season now?

In:
Bunting
Kampf
Kase
Kallgren
Lyubushkin
#38 2022

Out:
#25 2022
A future 2nd or 3rd

His good signings outweighed his bad ones for sure and the bad ones didn't cost too much to move on from.
You would have to add the UFA's that walked as well if you're doing a list like this. Hyman makes this a major L for starters.

Name em.

I’m fine with it. Glad Mrazek and contract is gone. Now time to get a solid goalie. If that’s even possible.

Mrazek a disaster signing no doubt but a 13 spot drop in the 25-40 range is actually a small price to pay.

Leafs will almost certainly get a guy they were grading higher than 25th at the 38 spot.

And now, even without moving anyone else, the Leafs have a good $5-6m to address goaltending, which lets them target most anyone.

Hyman provided little more than bunting, if any and the rest are all net positives. That’s just a blindly biased post.

Kampf was a pretty solid signing, id argue Kase too.

Bunting is local, but he also saw opportunity to succeed here.

Every GM and team makes mistakes. Dubas made two in Ritchie and Mrazek. Everyone knows this. No one acts like they weren’t mistakes.

However, Kyle Dubas got rid of those mistakes for relatively very little value given up.

I hope we can agree on those two things.

How can a staff get it so wrong though? I get it if you sign a UFA and budget for 30 goals and settle for 20 on a down year. But how can our two bigger UFAs go from July 1 to waivers like that in season? That’s not typically what happens in other cities.

I don't see it that way. You don't simply "add" Hyman to the "out " ledger and score it an "L".

Hyman got more than Bunting, Kase, and Kampf (possibly Ritchie) combined. If we keep Hyman we get none of those guys and probably have to move someone else out to be able to have a 21-man roster.
