Dubas left enough cap space to make another trade it looks like. I don't think he needed to get more than 50% to get Foligno even if Andersen is back before the end of year.
How much cap space did the leafs have before and were they accruing cap space as they used LTIR multiple times? Folingo makes like 5.6 or so, at 75% retention that is 1.4, did they have 1.4 million in cap space if they weren't accruing cap space because of LTIR and if Andy will return? Im curious as I dont know

This shouldn't have to be explained, but some here have trouble with the concept that Folingo doesn't have to be judged based on his offensive stats, especially considering he played in Columbus.

Columbus is 28th in the league in goals for game so naturally his numbers are going to be poorer.

How about the fact that he produced 10 minor penalty minutes over two series last year in the playoffs, vs 6 points... So offensive black hole, who doesn't skate well anymore and takes more penalty minutes than points produced.

That's worth a 1st and two 4ths? Jarmo is laughing in Columbus.

This was the guy I wanted. A captain, strong on the puck, does what is needed to win, "team first".

We get him without losing a player on the team. You don't get important pieces without paying full value.

He and Nash contributed to our loss a few months ago. I believe they will contribute to our success this time.

I like it. Gives our third line a nice boost and will let Hyman stay top 6. And it still leaves room. Still some moves left or Andersen is on his way back.

Will be nice to see him on the ice after quarantine.

Foligno was one of my top preferred acquisition targets so it's a great pick-up. He's averaged over 18min/game in CBJ for years, so this bolsters the top six and i'd imagine he starts with Matthews. He will handle this team's speed just fine and has a rocket of a wrister. His game is not predicated on speed. His numbers were likely suppressed in Torts' defensive system with poor playmaking C's.

Do not underestimate his intangibles. It's a term that gets laughed at around here, but Foligno's a very vocal leader, something this bench has lacked until this year (even Keefe has said this). He demands accountability. Will be a disciplined bodyguard for Matthews/Marner when things escalate in a long series. A LW power forward for the top 9 has been one of the biggest team needs for years.

However, this price is steep and as I said pre-trade, moving a 1st for a 33 year old rental is disappointing. I've been wrong on Dubas' trades before (e.g. Galchenyuk), but for a player that has to quarantine, you get dozen regular season games + playoffs in a buyers market at an inflated price. If you win a couple rounds it's justified, but Foligno has talked about re-signing with CBJ in the off-season and will price himself out anyway. Pure rental. Luke warm on this deal but it's necessary given TOR's contender status.

I think this costs a 1st primarily because of the retention. Other teams probably weren't quite offering that first round pick I bet, but it came with less retention.

There's some risk here with his age, I agree, but he brings a lot to the table.

Agree with others
It’s a very late pick almost a 2nd

I’m good
We can get a better 1st back if we trade Anderson hahaha

Is he the 3rd line C? I really don’t see the point otherwise. How would a 16 point player do any better?

now we have what?

Galch Matthews. Marner
Kerfoot. Tavares. Nylander
Soup. Foligno. Hyman
Thornton. Spezza. Simmonds

like if you are giving a first. You have to swing for the fences. I really don’t see what this does.

we need goalie insurance and D depth more than foligno i think

All those shitty goals our goalies have been giving up, the poor defensive play we have been prone to over the last month or so... that is Foligno's wheelhouse, plus he's a leader, he's similar to Hyman in many ways. I don't think you put him at center, he's better at wing.

I don't think we are done trading. there is still Ekholm out there. Nashville is in a playoff position by a hair, I don't think they are going to hang on to Ek. trade for Forsberg and Ekholm, I have no clue how to fit them under the cap but get those 2 and you can book the SC Parade on Bloor Street.

Yall care too much about a first rounder in this draft. Where we could very easily be picking 28th or later. This team has a lot of good prospects already. I would not be surprised if someone like Dermott gets traded with a bit extra if needed to get that 1st rounder back.

I don't care about the 1st rounder. I care about who we moved it for. Kings probably say "yes" in a heart beat for a 1st and 4th for Iafallo, a much better player at this point of his career.
