Confirmed Trade: [TOR/BOS] Brandon Carlo (15% retained) for Fraser Minten, cond. 2026 1st round pick (top 5 protected), 2025 4th round pick

Carlos 5v5 ice time is basically identical to Tanevs. 16:15 and 16:09. OEL plays more than both of them because when the Leafs are trailing (very common lately) Berube noticeably cuts back on playing his defensive guys and plays OEL/Rielly way too much.

The Leafs mix and match their pairs more than most teams. They have 5 solid defense options and one plug.

I hate Philadelphia is really not liking how good Carlo has been thus far
You're tagging me right as Carlo is the worst player on the ice vs. one of the bottom teams in the league?

So much hard work has been done to try and discredit Brandon Carlo in Toronto but ignores the crucial point. We Leafs fans eat defensemen for breakfast and if he was anywhere near a net negative we’d be doing all that work for you, with pleasure. Carlo’s been great. Now back to the pie charts for you.

Only D that has less ice time than him is Benoit, so well if he's a top of the line-up D it doesn't show in his usage at all.

He's averaging 18 minutes a game, which is over a minute less than what he normally averaged in Boston but still top 4 usage. Where people should be concerned with Carlo is his giveaways. This year, he has more giveaways than his prior 3 seasons combined. That's not a stat to be proud of for a guy that usually has the other guy on his pairing do the majority of the puck handling.

Guys been a stud, I had no idea he was this good. Genuinely overjoyed with his addition, guys a rock defensively and has a big presence on the ice. Awesome trade for us, Minten looks like he's doing well in Providence too, happy for him.

Who has looked good in Boston this year?

Nobody but Carlo's trend of coughing up the puck is still going on in Toronto, so it's not just a Boston thing.

Difference is we're asking him to be our 4th best dman. In Boston they were asking him to be #1 during times of the year due to injuries and if not #2

Carlo has fit our needs like a glove. Everything about him so far has been exactly what we needed.

Contrast that with our attitude about Laughton and the difference is discernable in an unmistakable way.

No mention of Larry Murphy so far.

One game? He did get hit with a few good punches the night before so maybe feeling the effects of that. Let’s see how he looks Wednesday vs Florida

I’ve been kind of middle of the road in Carlo amongst the Bruins fan base. It’s a good move for both teams.

But how he matches up against Florida is exactly why I was fine from moving on from him.

Give it time sweet summer child.

Let's say things did fall apart next year and they got 1st overall.

What happens to the pick

Usually it would just slide to 2027 but that's also top 10 protected so it can't.

I assume if the 2027 pick is top 10 it would slide to 2028.

The 2026 pick can't slide

Carlo has been excellent, and he was great again last night.

I can see why Bruins fans have turned sour on him, happens to Dmen all the time across every fan base. Will happen with the Leafs one day as well.

But as it stands today, he's done EXACTLY what this team has been begging for. All the Leafs need him to do is hold plays at the line, and disrupt plays down low - Rielly and the rest of the team will take care of the rest.

I remember a Bruins fan saying he's just another Hal Gill, when ironically, that's exactly what this team needed.

Carlo has been a stud, not sure WTF certain posters are watching. Carlo has been paired with Rielly at times and Morgan has been a disaster at times in the d-zone. Carlo blocks a ton of shots, clears the front of the net pretty well. Not flashy but a very very solid D especially at just over 4 mil a year

One of the best days for me when he was traded, good riddance. This time next year Leafs fans will want him waived lol

He blows

Keep hearing that throughout this thread and his debut aside, because that was a rough night for ever not just him.

Other than that he's been fantastic.

Bruin fans are shitting on him now because he's not longer a Bruin

Under 4M a year, under 3.5M.

$3.485M a year since Bruins retained 15% of his 4.1M per.

He’s been a great add
