Confirmed Trade: [TOR/BOS] Brandon Carlo (15% retained) for Fraser Minten, cond. 2026 1st round pick (top 5 protected), 2025 4th round pick

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

I am talking about Reilly obviously. That Toronto has no true #1 defenseman is going to sink them.
The past few playoff years it wasn't the lack of defense that sunk them the most often, but mediocre to average goaltending and most of all the lack of offense. On paper the Leafs shouldn't have that hard a time scoring more than a goal or two per playoff game and yet on the ice that's what they've been averaging for the majority of post season games in recent years.

I don't think anything will change this coming playoffs and the Leafs will likely continue to struggle to score and will only go as far as Stolarz can take them. If he and maybe Woll if called upon isn't playing like 92-93 playoff Patrick Roy, then the Leafs will likely be headed towards another early exit.

Another one of those "excellent" games for Carlo that I keep hearing about from Leaf fans.

Oh I’m sure he’s been mediocre or even somewhat steady, and it might be nice for a short time

Don’t get excited. This guy will burn you when you really need him to NOT burn you. Get used to the imagery of him fishing pucks out of his own net. For every shot he blocks, he pulls one out of the net

If the Leafs defense is really so bad that Brandon Carlo is a “huge upgrade” to their blue line, they should have been sellers at the deadline. Or at least found an okay-ish defenseman that didn’t command that price.

I will almost guarantee that the honeymoon phase will wear off and Leaf fans will want nothing to do with him by the time the season concludes. Which I can’t imagine will be happening past the first round.

He’s a big, “shutdown” defenseman that produces zero offense, is not physical, and doesn’t do much shutting down at all. He’s the classic case of a guy that earned a reputation based on a promising college career and decent NHL beginnings that never had his rep reset to the player he actually is. He’s like a poor man’s Phaneuf in that way.

Oh look another former Leaf.

Hmmmm should I trust literally every single piece of data that exists (which all show that Carlo is a net negative player), or Leaf fans cope posting on hfboards? 🤔

you mean the data from Boston or cherry picking individual games? Because he has a 57.34 xGF% as a Leaf which is best on the team...

I've never seen people so upset about folks being content with their 2nd pair defenseman lol

Ah yes, the Leafs should have been sellers at the deadline while a playoff lock and potential division winner, because they feel Brandon Carlo is an upgrade on Phil Myers and OEL playing on his wrong side. Very wise.

I mean, if you spent a second of thought you would realize Rielly has been almost not an NHL dman all season and he has dragged down every partner he has tried including Tanev.

Carlo has been very good for us.
Wasn't that the idea of getting Carlo? Perfect partner for Rielly to anchor defensive zone and have him focus on getting his game going?

Its been a story in Leaf land for a while now how many guys we have had come and go who were for Rielly and none of them work (aside from 20 games of Luke Schenn). Starting to become obvious it is a Rielly issue. Completely unrelated from Carlo. This has been a thing for over a decade.

Carlo is because Tanev got hurt and it showed how much we needed depth at defensive RD and on the PK which Carlo excels at those aspects.
