He really has been. I think he got lost in numbers game in Boston. Make no mistake we paid full price and maybe some compared to a few popular opinions but we got exactly what we needed.

That guy has an axe to grind with Carlo for some reason. He's excellent and was a perfect pickup for the Leafs.
Not sure what that one poster is talking about. Outside of that first game in Colorado he’s been great. We paid a high price but this guy is only making 4.1 million at 15% retained so it’s even less than that and he’s got 2 years left on his deal after this one. If he could carve out his time like McCabe has and down the road the Leafs can get an extension done with him this will be a steal.
I didn't like the trade at first because I think Minten is a winner, but leafs truly needed a dependable youngish rh D with term. Got to give to get.
Every contending team is willing to pay a 1st and a prospect for 3 years of control on a prime player at a prime position at an under market value cap hit.
Even if the 1st hits, typically you’re developing them, and they don’t mature until they’re 22-24 so then you get 3-4 prime years before they hit free agency if your lucky.
Or I can just get the player I want now and have a guaranteed 3 years of control.
Drafting a top player and getting 4+ years of elite play before you have to compete to keep them in free agency is very rare.
Even if I knew in advance that Boston were to get 4 years of Minten being a 40-45 point C, I would still pay the price to get Carlo. I value Brandon Carlo similar to a Ryan Strome type as I think a #4 rd making 3.5 = a 40-45 point 3c in terms of value.
For me to think we lose this deal, Boston would need to get 4+ years of Minten being a 50 + point center while we don’t win a cup or extend Carlo, or his play falls of a cliff. Or if we extend Carlo, don’t win a cup but Minten is better then 50 points and signs a very long term deal, then we also lose because in that scenario the 50 point c is just flat out more valuable then Carlo if they have him long term. Or the 1st hits in a similar way.
