It's really weird watching Red Wings fans who are willing to sell Bertuzzi considering the way he changes the game...
When he plays.

If by weird you mean it's f***ing stupid then yeah I agree. It's really weird watching Red Wings fans who are willing to sell Bertuzzi considering the way he changes the game...

So next summer these are the top 2 line (top 6) UFA centers: Malkin, Bergeron, Kesler, Hertl, Domi, Carter, Trocheck, Strome, Kadri
Of those names Malkin is too old to be a RW target, Bergeron probably isn't going anywhere (stay in Boston) even if he wasn't too old for Detroit, Kesler will never play again, Domi is better on the wing, Carter - see Malkin and Bergeron. So that leaves Hertl, Trocheck, Strome and Kadri. I would be reluctant to call that a huge C crop. I know there could be others under contract or RFA's made available but I'm not convinced waiting until the off season is going to make finding a top 6 C any easier.
I'd wager all of my SB cash that Hertl resigns with the team he gets traded to if I could.
I'd also wager that he goes to an east coast team in America.
So I guess the wings arent ass anymore? Feels weird to even say that but....
What would it cost for....
young(ish) 23-28 year old C who is good on Faceoffs, good lockeroom guy
Someone like horvat/Miller type guy
Who is available on the wings:
Hronek
Bertuzzi
Fabbri
Zadina
Rasmussen
Suter
Namestikov
Draft picks (2nd rounders+)
recent prospects (Berggren, Wallinder, Johansson, Buium, Neiderbach)
DET: can take a cap dump or retain on players to increase return
Anyone would be available at this price?
I assume there is a little tongue planted in cheek with this one, but I don't see the Habs getting even close to what they gave up for Dvorak if they do move on. They may want to hold on to him and see if he can rebound a bit.You want Dvorak from the Habs?
They can do both. You want to go after one in the draft, but if Wings don't start bottoming out their pick won't be high enough for an impact player within the next 2-3 years.Theres also the argument to just go after a C in the 2022 stacked Draft class if ppl go that route
3 more years at just over 5M for a 40/50 point player. Closest recent comparable is Dvorak who went for a 1st and 2nd. Dvorak was younger and a little cheaper, but also probably a little worse. Detroit isn't going to give up a first for a 29 year old, so probably like a solid prospect and a 2nd.What would it take to get Gourde out of Seattle? That's a guy I wish Detroit knew was available prior to the expansion draft. They could have traded for him and protected im.
Not sure why we would just give up on suter at this point and not wait until free agency. There’s no playoff push this season

When I said solid prospect I was thinking one of your top prospects not named Seider/Raymond/Edvinsosn/Cossa.Gourde has a 60+ point season and could probably score that this year in Seattle. He was the center for the best 3rd line in hockey the last 2 seasons which explains the lower point totals. In Detroit he's solidly an 18+ minute a night 2C.
If all it takes is a 2nd and a guy like Tuomisto (B level prospect) then I jump at it.
I'd love the Wings to get him, even at UFA age 28...I'd wager all of my SB cash that Hertl resigns with the team he gets traded to if I could.

Oh no, those 9 games we lose are brutal!
I'm perfectly fine with the mandatory maintenance days for a guy who just had back surgery.
That's exactly what I mean.
I don’t disagree with waiting until UFA, but realistically, Larkin/Suter is not a contending center duo.
It’s arguably not even a competitive duo among playoff teams.
Bertuzzi won't get the Red Wings a Miller or Horvat.Obviously I love Bertuzzi he has insane value to me but if he brings in a Stud C like Horvat/Miller I would trade him. Wings are a stud 2C away from being a pretty good team when Edvinsson comes up.

Despite DRWs being in a playoff bubble, they are still rebuilding. It makes no sense to trade young assets or young core roster players. You build through the draft. The upcoming draft is going to have some good center prospects, Wings will nab one with their mid round pick. The way Stevie Y's track record has been, it'll probably be, yet, another steal of the draft.
Wings getting trolled by the lottery system by losing out on our top pick, Yzerman trolls the league back by selecting players that should've been the lottery pick to begin with. i.e., Seider, Raymond.
Canucks have Boeser, Miller, Podkolzin, Hoglander, Garland - Bertuzzi is not a need (good player, just not a player you trade your captain and best face-off guy #2C for - especially when there isn't a replacement anywhere in the system). Picks and prospects unless they are huge overpayments don't get the conversation started. I like Hronek, but I don't know if he is a key piece in a Horvat trade. Canucks need RHD, but trading Horvat would mean we would need a #2C that is good at face offs and produces at the 20+ goal 50+ point range.could add picks/prospects or base a trade around Hronek instead?
