I'd retain down to $4.5M on Petry to get fair value. If there is narratives on stat checking in a season where the Habs are drowning, don't bother. If you value Petry from 34-36/37 at $4.5M, we can talk. And yes, it starts with a late 1st. Acquiring guys like Petry with his size and skating is rare. I have no doubt he can be a top 4D with his term left and if he is in a McDonagh situation, I think that is best for him.

Playing for the Sens is hardly the McDonough situation.

You’ll need him to regain form and probably deal him closer to the end of his term if you have a shot at bringing back that value. Even at 4.5 it’s still a risk with that term. A lot of players, especially defensemen fall off a cliff at that point. Petrys play is not inspiring confidence at the moment.

I also think Melnyk is about the last guy to take on that risk.

I think Petry's trade issue is his term and AAV more than him drowning in a tank year. And yeah, Sens are not the team I was thinking would be a good fit for Petry. Petry not waiving his NMC for the Sens.

And the jets are keeping him so not sure what he’s doin on the trade thread. He was great with Morissey and whatever rookie we bring in.

I agree, but I was just responding to a previous post and was stating how underrated he is.
Unfortunately someone will be a cap casualty this off season and we have no idea of Chevys intentions. I would prefer keep DDM simply based on how much he has stabilized everyone he has played with and would rather see a few others go first, but it ain’t up to us.

I mean... these are just for fun and I put him here because he's exactly what the OP wanted and things weren't exactly going great for the Jets at that point and I thought it would be fun to include the Sens tribute video for him in the trade thread. So sue me... :)

On our back end we have our current 6 all with many years of team control and then we have Heinola, Samberg and Kovacevic who are pushing for spots. I think we'd move Dillon before DeMelo for capspace but I was interested to see what they may offer up for DeMelo. If we could work a trade, and I realize we'd need to add to get some of these guys, but to get a Bernard-Docker, Pinto, Boucher or a guy can dream Batherson than yeah, I'd move DeMelo and put Kovacevic on the third pair but it is unlikely we'd move DeMelo.

Anyhow, there were no bites on the post from Sens fans so it seems they aren't interested anyhow.

before opening this thread I was about to offer a "slightly used Zaitsev"

seriously, there's not a whole lot available for RHD... wait until the summer is most likely the best option
