I don't.

Pionk aside from a month of good hockey, has barely looked like a NHL defenseman. I'd expect ADA bridge deal would be much higher.
Well what we think and what the coaching staff and GM thinks are two different things

Their contracts will be close. Pionk still leads the team with TOI per game, they obviously think he's better than he is

quinn and pionk formed a secret plan to overplay pionk and undermine the team.

plan working beautifully.

pretty sure marc staal overheard this secret plan and is totally in on it too.

as an aside, 77 gets a 2 yr bridge. play better and get paid on the next one.

but if he has "bad intentions", its only 2 yrs and then they trade him away to be someone else most talented offensive dman err.......um.... problem child.

I swear to God I don't even need to read your posts anymore because it's literally the same exact thing phrased differently in like eery thread.

We get it.

Your becoming like the mouth dude, a caricature rather than a poster.

wait, the mouth guy is anti-ADA. he thinks hes a bum. I've been an ADA guy from the get go and never wavered unlike alot of posters here who were on record saying ADA would amount to nothing.

as for my posts, its up to you read them or not. or ignore feature works well.

im not a big quinn fan and i believe ADA is the same guy he always was. on the ice. quinns got little to nothing to do with ADA's play and production. kids mature over time. you cant healthy scratch them into maturity.

ive been a "character " here for along time and im not about to stop now.

Th skills for Tony have always been apparent but he has had some growing up to do. This coming from someone who wanted him to get more of an opportunity before now. He's fiery and a bit of a pest. Quinn has handled him well. I don't think many other NHL coaches would have had the same patience with him has Quinn has. And it's been a two-way street. Tony has pretty obviously reacted well to the way Quinn communicates and handles him. The line and path are clearer for him, hence his increased ice time and understanding for his role.

Thank you, I was tempted post something similar about 50 times but it's just not worth it.

Slowly as the season progresses, ADA's toi has gone up. He has gotten more trust from the coaching staff. Minutes with this CS are game by game, particularly with the younger players, so it's more difficult to get a true gauge of toi just looking game by game. But looking at chunks of the season his minutes have gone up solidly.

I honestly don't care at this moment about Pionk vs. ADA, there is no one to take their place in the lineup currently. I am certain that you have to be a blind dude or PB to not notice the disparity in talent. I highly doubt the Rangers management doesn't or is unwilling to see any of that. The thing that separates them and or keeps them rated close are the other issues that we are not privy to and can only guess at. Like it or not, ADA has to show more than 1 month or 2 of being a solid citizen to earn more trust and taken a step further, a long term contract.

Edit: he's been doing a great job since his last benching and I am willing to say a lot of that is the way Quinn has handled him. He's handled him like he's a man. It looks like the communication is constant and clear between them. In my opinion you can't ask for anything more.

It'll get real interesting next season. Let's see what ADA will be up too, when he's making millions.

If his attitude harms him then, we'll have a problem.

edit: he'll have a problem.

In 2019 (Excluding Lindgren and Hajek):

5v5 TOI/GP
DEANGELO - 16:15 (2nd on team)
PIONK - 14:49 (6th)

PP TOI/GP
DEANGELO - 1:50 (2nd)
PIONK - 1:29 (3rd)

PK TOI/GP
DEANGELO - 0:01 (8th)
PIONK - 2:40 (2nd)

The only reason that Pionk's TOI is comparable to ADA's is because he gets used with Staal on the PK.

Pionk's PP TOI is the only thing I see there that concerns me, and since the middle of February, ADA has lead our defensemen in that category while Pionk has trended towards less of a share. (all per naturalstattrick)

I dont think anyone argues with that usage.. ADA's bread and butter is offense and Pionk's is defense. Usage #'s reflect that

Do they think that or Do they see his age and decided to give him every chance to play his way in or out of the league on a rebuilding team?

I really think in the grand scheme of things he's going to be a transition piece.

It's why I still struggle to get too worked up one way or the other about Pionk.

I just don't think he's going to be a major character on this show.

And if he is, then we've screwed up or things are desperately off track.

In the GRAND SCHEME:

The goal going into this season with ADA and Pionk and a number of other players, was to play these guys (when they deserve to play) and see what we have.

Part of that is putting guys in position to succeed (Per the usage listed above) and a position to challenge them. We have to help them be the best player they can be but at the same time we can't shelter the kids forever

I get the feeling a lot lately that we have fans who maybe follow the NFL draft too closely. As we know the NHL draft is an entirely different animal, especially when you're doing a rebuild, restart, whatever.....

Or maybe it just goes back to being impatient, which is usually the hardest part of this whole process.

Look at those teams that leetch and Richter started their careers on when they entered the league until they won the Cup, it's like night and day and it took seven or eight years and a whole lot of puck luck and timing.

I think the internet, social media, and 24/7 access has contributed to a lot of what we see now.

Something that took place a year ago now feels like 3 or 4 because of how much we live and breathe it.

Likewise, while there's access to more information than ever before, a lot of it is missing context.

In my line of work I've also discovered that social media can also make voices of dissension seem more prolific than they truly are. For example, you can have someone present a minority opinion and 4 people like it. Sometimes that's just the tip of iceberg. But sometimes it's pretty much just those four people and they all tend to like or share the same point of view.

So you can spend an hour debating with two people who despise something, only to find out that they were pretty much the only two people who felt that way. But in that moment, it felt like an uphill battle.

Fans on this site are about 1000 times more patient than casual fans, even the impatient HF fans.. Casual fans have no idea who these prospects are or why they are worth waiting for and are usually indignant that they can't always attend or watch a game that is competitive.

Yeah the fact that NFL draftees are generally 20-24 just makes any comparison null and void alone.

I think the Rangers hope/hoped that Pionk could be a solid minute eating 2 way defenseman and they threw icetime at him in an attempt to help him build that.

But he hasn't really progressed since the start of the season. I'm not sure if the Rangers see that or not but who knows

I think the true test will be as guys emerge within the organization.

I learned a long time ago not to kick my own ass while shadow boxing. People get so wrapped up in hypothetical scenarios and worry about maybes and things that haven't happened.

And it often doesn't even unfold the way they thought --- good or bad.

Be it sports, job interviews, romance, money, etc., you can only plan so much. At some point, not unlike an NHL defenseman, you need to work on the art of reading and reacting.

Interesting charts here inn Tony D. Seems to confirm the eye test of him being terrific at moving the puck out of the zone effectively.

some of us knew this prior to all the drama

kids got high end skills when the puck is on his stick. his offensive hockey iq is tops on the team from the blue line and his passing skills are as good as anyone here regardless of position.

core piece for sure and a player that will make building our D alot easier once we figure out that 44 belongs on the 3rd pair and we dont need a true #1 guy but a bunch of true #2 guys who can all play defense better than staal. shatty and smith.
