With two 5v5 goals DeAngelo is now 5th in the league among defencemen in 5v5 G/60 and P1/60.

Was a pretty good game by him ..but it should also be said that the canes were trash tonight. So anything that comes out of it needs to be taken with grain of salt.

Last night wasn't indicative of anything.

Well, anything we didn't know already, such as that he is likely a better option than McQuad and Smith and being that this is a lost season this would be a good time to see if he has what it takes to be a top 6 regular or is just another in a long line of talented guys who can't hack it.

Which is a point that has been made. Again. And again. And over again.

ADA is the only Dman currently on this team that I can envision being here long term because his talent level is that high.

Oh totally...I'm on the same page. Just making an observation of last night. He's had some rough games the past few weeks when he's gotten out there..last night was good. I think staal playing pretty well last night also helped a ton

He should be playing 20 plus mins a night.

Kid only played 16 mins last night while you’re running McQuaid out there almost 24 mins.

Shattenkirk and DeAngelo both should be in the 20 plus range.

McQ will be traded so they are showcasing him . In s month guys like deAngelo will play a lot

I would like to agree with you but whatever it is that people see that make them think garbage defensemen are a better option isn't going away until he points up enough points to make them have to play him.

And that wont come without ice time.

Which makes me have my doubts it will ever come.

Looking at the situation honestly, I doubt he makes it here.

At exactly 100 games into his career he has a .34 point per game pace.

Gonna be interesting to see where this stat is at around game 200.

This man, so much of this.

15 mins of TOI + 2 goals as basically a rook D is super impressive.

Find me that ‘ranger fun fact’ last ranger d man to play under 16 mins and have a two goal game ....

I’m not saying I expect him to be here long term, just that he is the only Dman that looks like he has abilities that separates him from the likes of Pionk and Skjei. Players like Skjei and Pionk are redundant in good organizations. You’re lucky if a player with DeAngelo’s talent becomes redundant.

What is P1/60? :dunno:

Agreed about the talent.

I am just not sure the talent will save him.

i have exactly zero issues, zero, with penciling ADA into the top 6 next season. he's proven his skill to me and hes got an edge to his game which i personally like. choir boys are for church.

once mcquaid and hopefully smith are purged, this kid should be getting 18 mins ice every night.

pretty sure hell produce points and certainly chances while playing adequate defense with some sheltered zone starts.

hes a keeper for sure, warts and all.

this is why we cant have anything nice. i'll never understand the deangelo hate. we're given a talented offensive defenseman, but we trash him and rip into him and then complain we dont have an offensive talent on the backend when hes gone.

the kid isnt big enough to dominate anyone, he wont block many shots, but you cant say he backs down. he's always in someones face during a scrum. hes made signifigant strides with his dzone awareness, and he plays with a smart stick in his own end. one hand pushing on guy constantly to knock him off balance or control him for a hit/pin, and the other hand on his stick poking at puck.

yes, for god sake, he will have the odd turnover up the middle when we tries to makes the high % plays, but we're gonna have to deal with that. i've personally had enough of the affection for defensemen who wont take a risk if their life depended on it. as much as i loved girardi and think staal has been better this season, we need some variety on the back end. we need some risk takers that are going to create offense from the backend out, even if it comes back to bite us sometime. he's made progress in picking and choosing his spots, and it is an ongoing process where he will continue to get better.

in the live game chat last night we were talking about how his biggest strength are his outlet passes, and heads up plays in our own end. we havent had a guy that has as much poise and smarts in his own end since yandle, and losing him was one of this frnachises biggest mistakes imo.

cant we just appreciate when we have something good for once, because deangelo is f***ing talented, and he needs to be given big minutes with the right players (ahem PP1, it's deserved), because thats his role he's going to be succesful in.

end rant

Yup and I have a feeling we’ll be praising Quinn for turning ADA into a true pro with all of this yo-yo’ing he’s done - working out all of the garbage parts of the kids game and keeping him hungry and earning it. The kid has looked great. That wrister he sailed from the point top right corner was a beaut.

I don't know if it's just a Rangers fans thing but it has always felt to me that this fanbase is reallllllly hard on any defensemen that are supposed to be offensive players and who aren't like Leetch level good (Leetch was too good to not overlook his flaws). A whole lot of fans just want this mythical bruiser defenseman who "plays defense!" and are hyper critical of a guy who's game is more offensively inclined and has a rep for not playing good defense. Instead of utilizing the tools he brings they just want to get rid of him.

Yeah I definitely agree. He's going to have bad games and make mistakes and he's not so talented that he's going to dominate the game offensively, but he creates a LOT, moves the puck up the ice exceptionally well, and overall I think is a net positive on the team despite any mistakes he may make.

I think if you can't find a place for a guy like DeAngelo in your lineup either you already have a great group of defensemen, or you're not finding a way to effectively use the talents you have at your disposal.

I also remember Erik Karlsson not being able to play a lick of defense for a few years. Just sayin’ even the super elite go through growing pains.
