I do think the EK miracle season was a gift that afforded us the opportunity to not have to go scorched earth in terms of dealing with contracts, and with Logan potentially being done there really was no dire reason to trade Hertl unless either he asked to be out or Grier just wanted to wipe out every contract from the books.
He was going to ask out this summer so what’s your point other than going on 6 hours now of whining? Rather keep a disgruntled player for 6 more years of sucking?

Hey shoutsout man, getting sober was the best thing, and the most difficult thing I have ever done, glad to see that you have done the same as well. It really all does start with wanting to get better as you said. You have to accept the fact that you are not in a place that you want to be, and make the best decisions you can, with a goal in mind (in both cases, getting better).

The real addict move for the state of our team would be to not accept the fact that we suck, and bandaid fixing the issues, instead of actually solving them. Hard decisions have to be made in both cases.
Comparing building a pro sports business to addiction is asinine.

Is this the first time Grier has officially said "years away"?
Maybe in direct words, but he’s certainly implied it with words and actions. Actions being trading Burns, Karlsson, Timo, Hertl.

After the Timo trade for instance
“So, to pay him the money he’s looking for and wanted, it just didn’t seem to line up with where we are headed as a franchise and where we’re at. We don’t want to just keep spinning our wheels here, we’re going to try and move this thing forward.”

Echo what was said here, GMMG helping Vegas win another cup in completely tone def to the fan base. if you can't get .50/dollar value then trade out of the damn division. It would be welcome if the media gave some objective analysis and held Sharks Mgmt accountable. I don;t want to see quotes in 2028 explaining that we had to trade Eklund because he wanted to win. Next season is another washout- fine enjoy seeing other lackluster prospects in front of 12k fans. But if they are not competing for a playoff spot 25-26 the ownership should clean out everyone. Thats what should be a incredibly low bar to clear. To teardown and just hope to get the #1 overall pick is lazy.

Sorry man, I know it's tough, but rebuilds don't take 3 years, and we only really started ours with the Burns trade.

The problem is there should be an idea to avoid being Buffalo or Ottawa, or even Detroit. Or even a team like Winnipeg, where they have 1 or 2 years of being a dark horse over 15 years.

It's easy to build a mid-team with a bunch of tweeners which can finish between 7-10. You need elite talent to win anything.

My other worry is this kind of trade off will spark this rag tag group of unwanted into running off some kind of unheralded winning streak.

We’ve seen teams do it before after removing significant pieces.

First reaction: F*** me sideways

But in reality, it's a very solid trade...Hertl would've probably pulled a late 1st and B prospect in 2022 at the TDL, so the Sharks paid two 3rd round picks for the retention (ie the consequence of Joe Will's stupidity).

But why did it have to be Vegas? Ugh. f*** Vegas.

QUITE the news to wake up to!

Sad to see Hertl go, but mentally I prepared for this two years ago when he should have been traded. And while him going to Vegas also blows, I'm of the mind where it doesn't matter where he goes or which teams win while the Sharks aren't competing. That said I was kinda hoping he was a big piece to dangle this summer to the Rangers.....

I like the return and the idea of getting out of his contract, even with retention. Thinking with my business hat on, this was a hard but necessary move

Did any previous successful rebuilds (Tampa, Chicago, LA) ever involve sending fan favorites to direct division rivals to help them win championships?

Thats the worst part of the trade. If Hertl was traded to Florida for example i dont think there would be as much anger.
