Wilson has recently stated that he wants to be in DC, despite the retooling/inevitable rebuild
Our GM has publicly said he wants Wilson to retire a Cap and will do "everything we can to sign him"
The fans LOVE him in DC
It's basically an open secret that the organization wants him as the next captain once Ovi retires

Wilson isn't going anywhere unless another team makes the type of stupid overpayment deal that would get a GM fired

All of this. Some players you just don't trade.

The add on is cap space and possibly some depth pieces, definitely not a top 10 pick

Last offseason when the Leafs got beat by Tampa I thought Marner for Wilson, Eller, Hathaway and Samsonov (before he went unqualified) would have been a win win
Wilson's value is high even on a 1 year deal but he's no where close to as valuable as Marner with 2 years left. Marner is equivalent to a prime Backstrom offensively and is better defensively. The plus is absolutely a top ten pick.

Capitals should absolutely be shopping Wilson. His next contract has a ton of risk, and they've already got his best seasons. Capitalize on his trade value now.
Yep.

Having too much money tied up in old guys past their in primes is what derailed this season. Caps seem to have learned their lesson with Orlov though.
