Left leg into the pad and then consistent effort to keep jamming during the cover? It's enough to get punched in the mouth.

and that's the intent. To punch a guy in the mouth a little, same way they'd be doing if they were vertical and face to face. Not to end his career or break his neck, just punch him in the mouth a little for taking a liberty with the goaltender. You don't get to go there and hack away all day in hockey without paying that price.

Its one thing to punch a guy face to face. It's another to hit a guy while he's cheek down on the ice, vulnerable, and unable to fight back. It's cowardly and malicious

Rebuilding team bad for playing 2 young players (one in his 2nd game) and a PKing vet on the 4th line. What a take.
Their whole bottom six is incredibly soft. If that is deemed necessary, well then Panarin has to drop the gloves. Caps bully the Rangers and are in the lead. Can't blame Wilson for taking advantage of the other team's weaknesses -- that's how one wins games.

I guess, because doing that together has become a sort of tribal thing that transcends things like memory and sense. This isn't the first or last time that a guy who kicks at a loose puck in the crease gets punched in the face for it.

The fact that it's from the "front" as it were and not straight down into the ice is all you really need to see, having watched hockey a time or three, to tell that Wilson's trying to give him a little payment without sending him down the tunnel. You're "allowed" to do that if you want to as a hockey player without expecting a ton of lasting consequences, and it's absolutely insane to see this many people this upset over... slightly less than clean hockey? A kerfuffle in which nobody ultimately dropped the gloves or did very much of anything, really, just a bunch of justifiable roughing calls and Wilson's deserved misconduct for starting the whole thing.
I don't have the level of outrage for this as some people here but your assessment is pretty generous.

Wilson punches a player who is down, gets jumped on by Panarin, they get in a scuffle and he bodyslams Panarin instead of trying to square up, punches Panarin when he's down, shoves him to the ice again, is still grabbing and looks like he's choking Panarin as the refs are piled on him,

As isolated events they're not terrible but you string them all together and it's pretty bad. Especially since we've all seen this before. Wilson gets upset about something then starts running guys or seems determined to injure guys. He's a hothead.

Uhhh... Winning in what context? Being great regular season teams and collapsing pathetically in the playoffs year over year?

Congrats...?

As a wings fan you have nothing to talk about. You’re franchise has been irrelevant for awhile now. It’s a right now league. No one cares about what happened 10-20 years ago unless you were big fans during those times.

Another foolish outtake. The puck is loose. A split second later it’s not and the whistle is blown. Buch is on the ground at that point and then Wilson showed the world that he’s a special kind of stupid.

you know there's going to be some feel good redemption arc story about how he was in a "dark place" and that's why he acts like this but then he got help and became an assistant coach somewhere and feeds homeless dogs.

Here's the full video on Sportsnet's Youtube page:

Please, tell me where Buchnevich kicks the goalie. I'll wait.

Agree don’t see much of a kick or anything. Normal play of offense getting into the crease and the defenders protecting the goalie.

Also puts to rest the claims of a “back of the head punch.” He jabs at his back.

It's not bizarre at all. Every fan base defends even the shittiest actions of their own players. Check Hawks fans screaming how that son of a bitchin cab driver got what he deserved.

I can't comment for sure, but Caps fans defending Wilson at this point is pretty comparable to Penguins fans defending Cooke after his ultra dirty hit in 2011:

I wasn't on this board at the time, so I have no clue if Penguins fans did that, but I can't reasonably see how any Penguins fan could defend him at that point.

First it was "He only hit him in the cheek and shoulder!"

Now it's "Did you see Buch kick vancek? Thats why wilson hit him!"

So that means Wilson punched Buch in the cheek to what, tickle him? Whats the intent?
Do you think that cross checks hurt? Why do you think people dish them out in front of the net so often? It's not to let you know where they are, it's to discourage you from continuing to be there.

He punched him in the face to punch him in the face. It doesn't immediately signal some career-ending malice. It's a short jab with no follow through, with the glove on it's probably not meant to do much more than surprise a guy and give him a little heads up that he shouldn't do that again.

This isn't new to the sport or anything.

It’s not as good of a defense for Wilson as you all seem to think it is, my friend. Especially when most bruins fans admit marchand has been a rat

As a matter of fact that deflection to a player on a team completely unrelated from all of this is kind of pathetic
You're whining about Caps fans defending Wilson. That little story pretty definitively says that it's hardly confined to them.

It's a stupid line of attack you're pursuing when your own fans have defended dirty plays with pretty ridiculous excuses themselves.

Caps fans just know that since it’s been proven that headshots are extremely dangerous they employ the biggest pos that intentionally injures guys in this era.... there is no defense for him so they are throwing out strawmen left and right

he is garbage and should not be allowed to earn an nhl paycheck anymore... for anyone...,

He's a f***ing joke. Superstar player leaves the game for that. Pulls his hair and slams him into the ice twice. Dude doesn't deserve to play another game. That had nothing to do with hockey

Weird chirp to end it at 4 years..

I wonder why you did that and didn’t add on the two years previous to those 4?

Your team has one Stanley Cup and made it past the 2nd round one time in their measly existence.

Sit down and shutup.
What are you taking about? They’ve made it past second round multiple times.

who cares about the past? Those aren’t the same players, owner, coaches, etc. it’s about right now - and right now caps are heads and shoulders above pens.

Buchnevich's left leg comes in fast and he kicks Vanecek's glove hand. Feel free to slow the video down to help yourself out

TVR was guarding the crease next to Buchnevich and jostling with him yet you don't see him drive him down and punch the back of his head.

Pavel may have crossed the line there too but when the play's stopped, I don't see how it's acceptable for anyone to keep socking Strome as the third man in, then when Panarin came to support Strome he turned on him, then throw Panarin down and start hitting him. In short, Buchnevich may have started it but Wilson doesn't get to keep going and escalating it as he pleases just because he's the toughest out there.

Winning presidents trophies and nkt making it past the second round isn't the point I think you want to make

Good for you if you're happy though, some people enjoy mediocrity.
