A few years ago the Canucks took a Finn with a late pick, and reports said his grandmother was in the bandy hall of fame, or something like that. I picked him as a dark horse because of the blood lines, and now I can't remember his name.

I think you're thinking of Adrian Elefalk, a Swede who they invited to summer dev camp. Aside from his Bandy star grandmother, his dad was one of Sedins' agents.

Yes! His grandmother was Ann Elefalk, who entered the Swedish bandy hall of fame in 2014.

I would never have been able to come up with his name.

He's now an assistant coach with a junior team.

Columbus has moved off their ask for Jiricek

they wanted prospects like willander straight up and couldn't get it

it is now packages
williander was a get out of jail free card for them in a straight up trade

Probably trying to pull of a Reinhart for 15th overall pick ala islanders oilers

Not saying we should entertain it, but the Hronek injury got me thinking--are there any precedents for NHL teams pulling players out of college mid-season?

Nothing really stopping them from signing, but it's fairly rare. Jack Lafontaine left Minnesota mid-season a couple years back due to Carolina having tons of injuries in net throughout the organization. Kyle Okposo is the only other I can really think of - he also left Minnesota mid-season to sign with the Isles back when the program was a bit of a mess there for a minute.

Pandolfo has lost his god damn mind

Brendan Engum and Willander as a pairing............GTFOH

hutson and gallagher work so much better together than hutson and willander and boumedienne has looked pretty rough lately. i dunno who else that leaves for willander to play with. frechette i guess?

Good point

I honestly would just go Willander Celebrini, and it’s still solid

They were about 12 games last year and have done it during games this year as a fall back

Rock that top 4 and let the the bottom become a complete liability and shift the rest of the trash in and out

boumedienne Is the youngest player in the NCAA ….. and you know what? He looks it.

From Dave Hall at CanucksArmy yesterday:

I’ve really liked what he’s done this year. The shutdown ability is going to be his calling card—he’s a two-way defenceman but trending towards shutdown. His ability to carry the puck has improved immensely. Last year he had a bit of tunnel vision and made questionable plays on the breakout, but this year, I like what he’s done with his offensive game.”

This kind of jives with something Drance reported about a month ago in an Athletic article reporting he was hearing management was very happy with Willander’s progression this season:

The Canucks are also delighted about Tom Willander’s progress this season, and his evolution as a more comfortable and dynamic attacking presence from the back end in his sophomore season at Boston University. The club will likely push to sign him after the conclusion of his NCAA season.”

I defer to those that get to see him regularly such as credulous.
It would be much better if he was one of those guys that pretty much everyone who watched him play would come away with the same opinion that he’s ready to take the next step…

…but, there also seems to be a fair bit of talk out there that his game is progressing.

It does seem like BU is a bit of a gong show this season.

Looking at their roster it seems like 80% of their players are NHL draft picks, and many of those guys were picked in the 1st three rounds (and Sascha Boumedienne would have been expected to go high in this upcoming draft).
