Fun fact. Jackson Kunz was a player I wanted Van to draft. He's been a huge disappointment haha. Great hands/fantastic goal scorer but man his skating doesn't look like it has improved at all. Was hoping it would improve like Gadjovich.

I don't think that's necessarily the case but it does depends on what you mean by "total absentee ownership." Like the Rangers and Knicks have the same owner (who only cares about the Knicks) and the Rangers are considered to be the better run franchise.
At the end of the day the key is hiring the right guy to run the Hockey Operations department. But how do you get there? Do you hire an advisor to help you interview and hire someone? Do you simply approach a guy you like and give him the job? Those appear to be the two most common methods.
With that said, I think an owner who is willing to do what is asked of him is an advantage. Like if you're trying to recruit a player, having a personable owner there can help with the process.

On the Rangers, they are owned by Madison Square Gardens so keeping the arena filled in a requirement of the hockey teams management especially if the Knicks suck.
Running a team is more about connections than putting a puzzle together. Coaching is harder actually.
But ya, it is an old boys network and an active and involved owner makes a huge difference.

we dont need him to produce in VAN, we just need him to be Tanev like
I think the prevailing thinking is that players who produce at lower levels will translate to minute munchers at nhl level, not necessarily big producers.

there's always outlier
Tanve himself was never a PPG player or even close in his junior years
His best offensive season was 41 pts in 50 games in OJHL
defensemen points at junior or college levels are just often just an indication that they'll translate with good NHL puck handling.
Tanev was a statistical freak and outlier with a non traditional path to NHL success. Willander is also nothing like Tanev.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by this. Certainly having connections help but how do connections lead to good decisions?
That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying an owner who is willing to do what he is asked (by hockey operations management) can be an advantage. I don't agree that an active owner who meddles is necessarily a good thing.

Willander since world U 18's:
+47 in 57 games (college +international)
Now plus minus isn't the greatest stat but you're doing something right when it's that high. I think a lot of the nuances in his game help him always play a positive role in goal prevention no matter what level he is playing.
He can skate effortlessly, munch minutes at even strength/pk, shut down other teams players, and not take many penalties. I don't know what more people want from him but really the offense should be considered an added bonus.

Other teams just don't score when he's on the ice.
I don’t understand how people aren’t excited about this.. it’s like getting another Tanev.
I don't like using Tanev as a comparable because his willingness to sacrifice his body is unicorn stuff, but to me he's a very straight projection to being a RH Jonas Brodin.
