To sign or not to re-sign that is the question with Freddy Andersen.?

Have you watched him this year?

he has played like this every year, has always let in untimely soft goals, I think a lot is expected from this team now so it has become more noticeable and annoying .... he is still going to win the leafs 1st or 2nd in this division

I think also in years past, Freddy supporters would often refer to the 5-7 grade-A, 10 bell saves he made prior to the "soft goal against" and say it was a wash. Myself being one of them. At this point, the team has limited those chances to next to nothing. So he is not having to make those saves as often. What has grown increasingly frustrating for me personally, is the ones where it completely changes the complexion of the game. Last night, up a goal with <4mins left in the second, he fails to track the play and we go into the 3rd all square. Was it the leafs best game of the year? not even close. But they were up 1 in a pretty even game at that point. We need him to make that save. We cannot expect our defense to eat every point shot. Some are going to get through, some are going to get redirected. Fred needs to make that save. on the GWG, same thing. Fred misplays the dump in, fails to react to the dish in front quick enough, doesn't push off to challenge the shooter. Lowry has no other play than shot there, nor does he have the skillset. It ends up in the back of the net, and now the game is all but over. even if he has 1 of those, its still a game at that point.

with a sub 900 save percentage he ain't winning anything for us - that credit will go entirely to the players in front of him.

In 21 games started, he has an .899% and 2.87 GAA, hell no to re-signing him. He's awful.

I know he gets the blame every season, but this season he's been trash and his stats are just the proof that even Andersen fan boys cannot undo.

The fact that BOTH backups have the numbers they do is probably the most damning evidence that Andersen has been particularly subpar this season
Campbell came back from an injury after a month and posted a shutout against a dangerous offensive team in Edmonton. Andersen couldn't even manage that.

I never thought I would ever have any confidence in Hutchison let alone ever see him as a Leaf again after last season's shitshow but alas...

My off-season scheme to dump Andy for whatever we could get (was thinking 2nd+4th) and grab an asset from Vegas to help them out of a retained MA Fleury looks brilliant.

no one is giving us an asset for exclusive negotiating rights to a pending UFA Freddy. There will a plethora of goalies available due to expansion. Teams can only protect 1 tendy under contract, teams with 2 will have to either risk losing the asset for free or offload for whatever they can recover prior to the expansion draft. This will increase supply in the goalie market place, and the normal demand will result in lower prices. Andy's rights will be all but worthless IMO

its not how many he lets in but its the untimely soft ones that is killing the team, especially in the playoffs

That's nice but I'm talking about last offseason, when there was rumours of both us looking to move Fred and the Knights being willing to pay to get rid of some of MAF's contract. The combo was something I was in favour of

ahh my bad. Well if, if's and but's were candy and nuts, oh what a Christmas we'd have I guess. Hindsight does nothing for us now

Among pending UFA goalies with at least 10 starts this season Freddy ranks 12th out of 14 in pure sv%.

I think the discussion has changed from "Is he worth bringing back @ starter money" to given the choice of him vs. Ullmark/Grubauer/Driedger/Reimer /Rittich at the same 2-4m 3 year deal is he the guy we want"

ya I think this is more of the discussion as well. We really need to fully explore Campbell by the end of next year as well. he is 29 years old, and really could be our starter for the next 4 seasons. He has yet to prove himself beyond 30 games in a season, but has performed very well throughout the entirety of his career. My assumption is he is just a late bloomer, and has the same career trajectory as fellow highly touted goalie prospect Jakub Markstrom. The goalie we decide to sign in the offseason needs to be a goalie that is expecting only 30-35 games IMO. We have to see if Jack can handle the grind of an 45-52 start season. It will largely dictate how we treat the 2022-23 offseason. As we cannot waste these precious years of contending without above average goaltending

Watching these guys TSN, other 'insiders' & reading anything on the Athletic they all seem blind to the fact that Andersen has been shit. Sometimes they have good takes but on Andersen it's made no sense. Nobody dares to call him out at least not that I've seen. Opening line of this again: "So Frederik Andersen is having a pretty good year" What the hell are they watching?

Edit: Thank god O-dog finally called him out, even laughed about finally doing it. Noodles still talking out his ass though he thinks the mistake they made was not extending him in the offseason... I thought he was coming to his senses and was going to say trade him because Dubas considered it.

"I would sign him to a four year extension right now"

How the f*** did Noodles say that with a straight face? What f***in' drugs is he on? That's just delusional.

Back in the day, Andersen had no problem speaking out about others. Who will speak out now?

Andersen needs to pickup his game or the Leafs will let him walk. They are better served in paying someone 3 million a year to be a tandem starter with Campbell. I wouldnt sign him if I were the Leafs. Good run with the Leafs but hasnt stole us a round or two in playoffs, doesnt deserve a raise in my books.

Honestly, if we can get a decent backup from someone right now (for a 2nd or 3rd round pick), I would just release him right now.

I listen to overdrive almost every day and honestly Noodles is beyond irrational about Freddy and he kind of kills any discussion where they criticize goalies.

The media in general is just stupid. How they continue to act like Andersen is good is beyond me. It’s as if they don’t even watch the games.

I have no horse in this but who is out there to sign as a UFA that comes in at a similar cap?
It's great to imagine Cambell as the guy but expecting a career backup to come in and play 60 games next season seems nuts.
Could you imagine the shit storm if he falters?
People thinking they can unload a few iffy players to gain cap is unlikely and it once again leads to Willy being the best piece to move but Dubas seems like a stubborn dude so who knows if that's even considered.
Strictly from a cap POV it's not a rosey picture.

Fear of the unknown is not a legitimate argument to keep a bad hockey player.

As for Dubas being “stubborn”, I’ve seen no indication of such and don’t know where you got that.
