Seems reasonable, pretty much what was expected. Those projections of 3 - 4 million a year were a little out of whack.
He does process pretty well... most of the time.. until he boxes himself into a panic move. His skating isn't good enough for sure though... I think we owe him one more year, or part of a year, to see what he can do for us, and I hate giving up on D too soon. Maybe then consider a move... perhaps someone will be looking to move a heavier D, with better skating, and defense, where we could afford to give up the offense. Probably a Right hander, seeing as we are short of those.
He’s probably be looking at Rasmus Andersson in Calgary as a benchmark so I’d guess it would’ve been 25m+ over 6 years so 4+ aavIt is 100% affordable given he likely wouldn't exceed a number in the high 3s LT.
If you don't take these risks you'll never get an Ellis/Kadri/etc. sweetheart contract and always pay full value. This is the only recent RFA i'm confident enough in to jump the gun.
Anyways, interested to see if Sandin also gets 2yr. Will make for an insanely busy summer dealing with Matthews, Nylander, Liljegren, and Sandin right after Bunting.
When I started watching him live day-to-day with Marlies I got fooled at start .. his hands and brain are ridiculous .. he can make plays with his hands that make you shake your head .. but as game sped up in 2nd round of playoffs his passes got intercepted, he was a turnover machine and he could not catch Canes farm team on numerous breaks even when he had lead positioning which costs Marlies da series .. bottom line he was slowest Marlie and now slowest Leaf .. and you can't teach speed .. he might become a 3rd pair NHLer with a PP specialty .. i think that is his potentialYou know what is funny, is all the talk we used to get here about "Barb will make him a better skater."
I do think he processes better than some higher paid players on the defense.

Lou Lam drafted Liljegren, and Dubas drafted Sandin, so now we know how much RFA money Lil received and curious to see where Ramsus comes in to see which one of the young dmen Leafs value more.
I kind of see them as fairly close in level and contracts should come in similar.
I thought dubas only overpaid players…. Huh
I don’t know about the speed part as GOAT was around for a few years and his speed didn’t really improveWell... you can teach some speed... and I have no idea if he's already been maxed out in that area or not. if he is... well you are absolutely right. If he hasn't maxed out training, explosive speed techniques, there is a small amount of hope. But you'd think they'd know the problem, and be attempting to address it.
Have a feeling the Avs will do this with Byram this summer despite being cap strapped. Same idea but different AAV obv.I thought dubas only overpaid players…. Huh

They are a draft year apart, I don't think they're comparable.
If Sandin gets a 1 year deal, what he gets next year would be.
