Disagreeing with me is fine, hell, I can see why people would argue whether or not he is deserving of having his #4 retired, though it is hard to argue against him considering he is the best defenseman in team history (though I foresee Doughty taking that title when all is said and done).
What I find sad is those who still persist on booing the man. Think of what his wife and kids think when they see their husband/dad being booed by these ingrates who feel like Blake owes something to them. That is what rubs me the wrong way. That is what I strongly disagree with.
And I'm sure most if not all of these people have no clue how much work Blake has done in the community or the years of work he has put in to growing youth hockey in SoCal with the junior Kings program.
That and we see the Kings management made the organization a culture where players feel like family, and care for one another. You know back then we certainly had none of that coming from management, we had star players bolt for more money and another chance at the cup. We saw a lot of greats leave, Kurri, Granato, Gretzky, Luc, and so on. Management was crap in those days and didn't treat their players well. There was zero loyalty from management in those days, they low balled everyone and only cared about the bottom line than icing a great team. The one owner that spent money and treated his players like Kings (pun intended) was McNall. He got players to play for him, and he brought in good players in that era. Granted McNall was a fraud but his players loved him and always visited him in prison. I guarantee you if McNall was still running things when Blake wanted a new contract, he would have gotten it and there wouldn't be any soap opera antics from management, like you saw with Lieweekly.
Blake doesn't owe anyone anything, he came back to the Kings twice. Dean brought him back twice, spoke of his character highly, players speak highly of him, coaches speak highly of him, everyone does except a few select fans that can't let it go. Those few select fans don't know the situation and act like childish entitled brats that feel they are owed a lot by Blake.
They are completely ignoring what everyone at the Cup rally said...we are all Kings, we are all family. Blake is a part of that family, he's a King and always will be. He was a great player for us for many years. His number is going up in the rafters, he's a HOFer, and a great King. He deserves it and is part of the family.
