We all have been shitting on Mitch”in” Marner but we need to call a spade a spade and call out Elias Pettersson.

Elias Pettersson Has been garbage these playoffs. Is he injured? Are there any personal problems that Elias Pettersson has? What is up with Elias Pettersson?

He has been horrible, he needs to be better. What gives with Elias Pettersson?
Marner and Pettersson ..... twins split up at birth.
McAvoy the lost triplet.

I might be mixed up on when it happened, but I'm pretty sure it was during the bubble season.

Vancouver came back to win a game pretty dramatically, and when the game winner went in they panned to the Canucks bench to show everyone cheering and smiling and exiting the bench.

In the middle was EP, just sitting down on the bench staring off emotionless into space while everyone around him was celebrating.

Kid is broken.

He’s put up 100 point season since then

That's fair. But the overall sentiment still seems to be there, between the ears.

I do wonder if hockey is just a job for him, and the passion just isn't quite there. He's uber talented. I thought he'd solidify himself as a top 5 player in the game at some point. But I dunno. The drive just doesn't seem like it's there. And if it is there, it doesn't seem like it's consistently there.

I agree with you that he may think that now, that the passion is gone.
He doesn’t seem to care about anything by his body language

But I just don’t think you’re putting up 100 points, he was motivated that season and the first part of last season

Then “something” happened.

So he's just playing bad... on purpose? Make it make sense, Canucks fans.
For us Canuck fans it's not clear exactly what the issue has been: injuries, motivation, linemates, confidence, etc. He had 89 points last season, but it really didn't feel like it as his play was quite poor for an extended stretch in the latter part of the season and into the playoffs. His poor showing their that started this thread is not so much from not being a playoff performer as it was just a continuation of his poor play to end the season

It's kind of baffling because healthy/tuned in/confident Petey is a highly competitive player that can score 100 points and was really good in his first playoff showing during the covid year, 17-7-11-18. He's only 25 so you have to think he should turn it around at some point but this lackluster play has stretched through last season & playoffs into this season for a good 40 games or so now.

Something has affected his shot. 2022/2023 he was deadly. Now it seems he's very average in this category. Either he needs surgery or something is very wrong. This is according to me and I checked and I do not have a medical degree.

He will probably turn it around, but I just find it funny he has fallen off as soon as he signed the extension.
Except he fell off weeks before signing the contract (which initially led me to believe he was injured and that's why he signed. Like he knew he wasn't going to finish strong down the stretch and hurt his $ value). But now I'm just at a loss.

He’s hurt and it’s impacted his offense. It’s his knee. Has to be.

You can see the difference between when he’s at his best and this start since the tendinitis complaint.

His defense is actually better now though at the moment, so it’s not an effort thing.

Two charts showing that he’s been bad this year and good two years ago doesn’t prove he’s injured.

He missed exactly… 0 games last season. Played every playoff game too.

Hell he even made the road trip out to Winnipeg for the last game of the season despite it having zero ability to impact the standings, while many other Canucks stayed home to rest up before the playoffs.

No surgery in the offseason.

When his head coach was asked about any supposed tendinitis or injury in their exit interviews, he scoffed at the idea and dismissed it, when he easily could’ve admitted to it if it was a serious issue since the season was over at that point.

Too many people are making the injury excuse for Pettersson. I used to be one of them, but the evidence is clear at this point that he’s not any more injured than the guy next to him.

His play has fallen off a cliff, but its not because he’s being forced to play through some injury.

He’s played poorly for the last 60 games, over a span of 9 months.

But we’re supposed to believe he’s been injured that whole time, including the whole summer, and nobody did anything about it? But also they let him play every single game? And they’re letting him get crucified in the media while secretly knowing it’s not his fault?

People are looking for every excuse other than simply pointing their finger at the player himself.

When good players suddenly suck for no apparent reason, it's almost always an injury. Fans just can't understand it because injuries are "invisible" to us. His knee is obviously still f***ed. The only question now is if its f***ed for life.

not a top 50 player in the NHL. I never understood the hype around this guy. I have been saying it for years.
