Even with Hardings diagnosis I can't find anywhere that says he won't be playing.

I am hoping they want to go with Hacket anyways.

He did ok in a few games last year. When they've got Parise and Suter for 9 years it isn't like they need Backstrom to "WIN NOW" or anything. Although they have a potent looking lineup, if Heatley regains form, headed into this year.
Put Reimer in the offer and see what happens. May be offer to take Heatley back to sweeten the deal.
Actually Parise and Suter are signed for 13 years.

Luongo just dodged the question on TSN when asked if he would wave his NTC to go to Toronto. Did not seem overly excited about the idea. Looks like to Roberto and no Timmy the Tuna. Bernier?

If I was asked the same question for almost a calender year I'd probably stop answering too.

What did he actually say?

I dont think I've ever heard him say anything against going to Toronto, just that he prefers panthers(for obvious reasons.)

Really hoping the Luongo deal goes through for a fair price, people need to see what real goaltending looks like, it's been 8 years since we've had that.

Probably thinking "these Toronto media guys are really annoying. Wtf will it be like if I played there?"

I dont understand why any fans think he would want to play here.

Because it's been widely reported that we are on his short list of teams he's willing to waive his NTC for.

It's also almost certain that Vancouver could not afford to go into the season with another Luongo/Schneider distraction.

I think Luongo would waive to go to Toronto in the end.

I think one of Backstrom or Harding could be had now. I believe Minnesota are right up to the cap limit, if not over. They'd probably look at a defenseman like Franson to be honest.

Taking on that monstrosity of a contract would be a huge mistake. So by default I voted for the nutter Thomas, because we need somebody to get this God awful team to the postseason.... and he's crazy enough to do it.

If Lu played for the Leafs and they made the post-season?

This is what would happen to him:

This bothers me. Why would Luongo who has had issues with the media go from the 2nd 3rd or 4th worst city(MTL and NY positions debatable) in the NHL to the place that is the #1 most intrusive media city by a country mile?

Harding would be super cheap after his recent diagnosis of MS but at the same time I think it would be bad optics for MIN to move him after he declares his illness.

Backstrom is the one I wanted even before Harding came out with his sickness. BUt his price is higher now.

Harding isn't good enough.

Harding isn't good enough.

Oh yeah Harding is good alright, but injury-prone.

Backstrom is a UFA after this season - I've read the Flyers are looking at Nik if Bryz falls off the map again.

That brings us back to Lu - too many people are making a big deal about his age, but a lot of people ignore the fact that the best goalies the Leafs have had over the last 20 years were signed at 31 and 37 years old.

As for contract, yes, term would be the main issue for me, but his cap hit is 9th highest in the league among goalies, which isn’t bad at all.

With that said, do I think he's coming? Hell, no. But it would be a perfect fit - for us (not him), anyways.

Harding isn't good enough.

Harding is/was better than Reimer which is all that matters right now.

However he has been diagnosed with MS so who knows how that will affect him.

MY point was more to the fact that it would be bad optics for MIN to trade him after he came out with his illness.

Backstrom should be the target in Minny. Hackett is just another shot in the dark.

I do think we can find better options elsewhere.

He mentioned respecting Brian Burke and the Maple Leafs orginization, still hasn't talk to Mike Gillis and can't until the CBA is confirmed and has been working out with Francois Allire.

****

Shannon just restated Luongo is coming here. (puke)
Kipper says Bozak and Kadri are what gets the deal done. (Double Puke)

Keenan just said he had a Luongo for Thornton deal worked out in FLA nad FLA ownership said no.

This is why some teams just perepetually suck.

Thomas not interested in playing this year.

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie
Said to be content/happy living with his family in Colorado, Thomas not interested in fulfilling final contract yr with BOS/any other team

Tim Thomas is not playing this season and I think it would take some serious persuasion to get Luongo here. The guy has his contract and the freedom to choose where he goes, why would he willingly come to our team when we have nothing he would be interested in?

From the two, I go with Neither.

I'll stick with Reimer to see what he's got. Goalies take time to develop and I'd hate to give up on a guy that could be a very good goalie in the future. Worst case scenario, we bomb and end up with a great pick.
