Ticket Exchange 2013-14

If I was a season ticket holder I'd be kinda pissed too. When the process was first unveiled I brought up this could become an issue, at the time TNSE said all the tickets woudl get sold, its looking like they were wrong. I'm on the wait list, it looks like there are 40 listings available to Friday's game, many of which are pairs

ST holders complaining they can't shed their tickets fast enough now? We've come a long way in 3 years

The problem is that TNSE has been telling everyone to avoid the 3rd party resellers in an effort to protect ticket sellers and buyers.

From the TPA: The Team recommends the use of the ticket exchange service
provided by the Team with respect to the resale of Tickets.

Fine. Admiral idea but here's the problem....

Year 1: TNSE comes out with the SeatExchange (SE) which is fully open to everyone to buy. The problem is that the STH that is selling will only receive the ST price for the ticket that they sell, instead of the face value of the ticket. The TPA that all STHs had to sign tells you that you are allowed to sell your tickets for the purchase price as shown on the tickets ( IE: Face Value ). So why would anyone use SE to sell tickets at a loss when they can legally sell them for more to joe public. And as the the lack of use of SE in year 1 shows... nobody used SE.

Year 2: SE is still fully open to everyone, and now the STH selling the tickets is getting Face Value. Everyone is happy.

Year 3: The STH selling the tickets is still getting Face Value, except now the SE is opened to a privileged few. Limited resell market. Even as a STH, if I say have a couple of friends come in from out of town, I can't even get them tickets because I'm not on the waiting list. Sellers are unhappy, the general public is seriously pissed. ( everyone I know that isn't on the waiting list is not happy at all ) For the general public, the only real way to get tickets is to make sure you have a STH as a friend.

This needs to be corrected. So it's not about people not being able to "shed" their tickets, it's about being fair to the buyer and seller when the need to sell tickets does arise, without screwing either side over. TNSE "insist" that we use SE.... yet it doesn't work in it's current iteration.

No, your missing the point, i posted a pair of tickets on the seatexchange for friday and sunday's games, and they haven't sold after a week. I had to eat 3 preseason games that didnt sell on the seat exchange.

The supply is surpassing the demand on the ticketexchange right now and that is a problem for season ticket holders. It's not that tickets are not selling fast enough, it is that they are not selling.

Thinking outside the box a bit, but maybe to keep the exclusivity for the wait list but also make the general public and season ticket holders happier, they could do a random draw for Seat Exchange as well. They could do one for each month and limit the number of tickets/games you can buy just like they do now, except there would be a draw for Ticketmaster and a draw for Seat Exchange. More lottery winners, more buyers on seat exchange, still easy for wait list members to buy tickets. Everyone wins.

I doubt the general public was fretting that they had no access to seatexchange during the preseason. Especially with the 10% markup. There were plenty of tickets available from TM at regular pricing for these games that the general public didn't seem in a rush to buy. Why would they rush to pay even more? Maybe if we play the Leafs or Habs in preseason but other than that there won't be a great demand for preseason in this city.

Not bad, but I think the answer is to give exclusivity to wait list members for a short period of time. Up to 48 hours prior to game time wait list members have access. Less than 48 hours prior to game time everyone including the general public can access tickets.

Or give wait list members 48 hours from the time a particular ticket or set of tickets is listed as exclusive access, then release them to the general public. Probably more complicated this way as TNSE would have to maintain two types of lists but it might be better in that tickets would be available to the general public sooner.

The goal is to fill all the seats with people that want to be there. TNSE wants to maximize their return while providing a safe venue (seat exchange) that minimizes the gray market. What you don't want is unhappy season ticket holders because at some point the wait list will run out and if the experience of previous season ticket holders is to be left holding the bag, either because games are undesirable (pre-season, C games) or too expensive (A-game in P1) then that's bad. Making seats available to only an exclusive group (wait list members) isn't a sound marketing strategy because you're completely excluding your potential "walk-up" market. Certainly you want to provide benefit to the wait list members in as many ways as possible but you don't want to make the accessibility of Jets games any more exclusive than it already is because of luck and economics. TNSE should be finding a way to keep all groups happy.

I was only have a laugh at the irony of the problem, specifically with respect to the season ticket holder. I.e., being so keen to get season tickets 2 years ago, now so keen to offload tickets b/c, I don't know, a new season of Family Guy is on ...?

No offense intended. :)

I think the problem is TNSE wanted a perk to get people to jump on the waiting list. I don't think they thought it through. Perhaps they were too busy scheming and counting cash ...?

It worked for me. I'm a season ticket holder, part of a group. I have been successful at landing games I couldn't get through my ticket drafts, through SeatExchange in seasons 1 and 2. With them making SeatExchange a Waiting List perk exclusively, and not wanting to lose that access/opportunity, another in my group and I joined the Waiting List as well this season. And it has paid off already, landing tickets to the Anaheim game.

I wouldn't object to the Jets opening up access to general public earlier if it'll help, but if they dissolve the perk (make it available to all again), obviously we wouldn't renew on the Waiting List (currently #6537 I believe :) ).

It upsets me to hear of others saying they're going to sell elsewhere (won't be up on SeatExchange) however I completely understand where they're coming from. With that said, if anyone ends up with a pair for November 2 they can't use, I'm looking (to take my 7 year old son, who's a big Toews fan)... ;)

I meant it is a problem for TNSE, not the fans. So I generally agree with what you're saying ... except for the bit that upsets you. If fans are so eager to find ways to part with their tickets, why did they acquire them in the first place?

Yes, problem for TNSE, perhaps not enough foot traffic to buy available tickets.

And surely you can understand me being a bit upset - tickets which should be ending up on SeatExchange don't, sellers resorting to other means instead. However again, I completely understand sellers taking whatever means necessary in order to achieve their goal (move the tickets).

As for being being eager to sell off what they've acquired, I know of some who went in over their head in terms of P category, with the intension of selling some off and bring their costs down. Also, naturally things come up in life, preventing them from attending (hence all of the Friday and Sunday tickets for Thanksgiving weekend...). I for one, should I land tickets to a few other games I couldn't get in my draft, may look to sell off others to recoup that cost.

One point I haven't seen posted yet is that as a sth I cannot set the price of the tickets on the seat exchange either. It would be nice to have the option to sell a ticket below face value if I wanted. I agree with the general consensus against limiting the seat exchange only to wait list members, though I like the idea of giving then an exclusive window to purchase.

With all that said, I can't make either game this weekend, so if anyone's interested just send me a message

Anyone have 2 lower bowl seats for the Nov 2 Jets vs Blackhawks game? Need to get a couple for a client. PM with info.

*EDIT* I can vouch for GoJetsGo8, great guy, was an easy and quick transaction for his two tickets to this past Sundays game.

Perhaps people on the wait list that are regulars here could work with non-wait list members to purchase tickets :dunno:

It would be nice if there was a reliable way for people who want tickets to be able to get tickets.

If I was a wait list member I wouldn't hesitate to buy tickets and transfer them to someone (of course I would want money up front via e-mail or something).

I figure there has to be a way this place can serve as a means to get hardcore jets fans in the seats.

I'd have no issue doing this for anyone that wants tickets. I've offered the same to some friends. The problem I've run into is people whine and complain they can't get tickets and when push comes to shove they don't want to actually pay what the tix are worth.

PM if anyone wants some help getting tickets.

Anyone had any luck buying/selling on ticket echange today?

There listing about 8 different pairs of 300 tickets, but every time i try to buy any of them it errors out.

lady at ticketmaster said the site can't always keep up with demand and it shows tickets as available even though they've sold.

the weird thing is some tickets dissappear, then repop a bit later.

I'm on the waitlist, I'd buy more tickets off seat exchange if they eliminated some of the fees and simply charged face falue + a few dollars. I don't like paying 25-40 extra above face value for a pair of tickets.

I put my 2 tickets for Sundays NJ game on seat exchange last night at mid night. They were sold by noon today. I would have gone to the game if it were not for that pesky bird I am going to eat that makes me sleepy. There alot of tickets available for sale for that game. (59 postings at 1 pm of singles and pairs+)

I also sold 3 of my preseason games rather quickly.

I will probably use 95% of the rest of the games and not use seat exchange much more. My seats are Primo seats P3 in the attack zone so I contribute that to the fast sale. People with average or below average seats for their price point ( p-level) are probably feeling the pinch of not selling on seat exchange.

Just adding my 2 cents (increase to a nickle re no more pennies) to the conversation

I agree they should open seat exchange 24 hours before the game to anyone. There are 57 listings right now for the Friday's game. I have had plenty of time to decide If I want to buy. There is no way all 57 listings will be covered. I guess you are going to the game after all. On the flipside, why can't season ticket holders set their own price? I am going on a slippery slope here. Charge what your cost is. Hmm. At that point, we are down to 3 listings, each having a single available for purchase. Make the market decide on these A, B, and C games. Since there are barely any walkups, why the different price points? My beef is the guy with 4 tickets in Rockstar section who has no one to make it to a friday night game. If Buddy never had a chance to pocket 200 bucks, he wouldn't be posting. I could be wrong.

I agree with the point above. For a P7 pair for the Devils game there is a mark of $25 on a $51 seat... that's just not right.

I am a wait list member and I would also question True North's policy on giving Waitlist members exclusive access to Seat Exchange while they release seats over on the open ticketmaster site in the the 48hrs leading up to games...

taking the Ducks game as an example; decent seats (including many pairs) in a variety of price points were released the morning of the game to the general public (as Aavco Cup pointed out on this site back in post 582). What are these seats?

Now as a waitlist member I am supposed to exclusive access to seats unused that are held in reserve by the Jets for the NHLPA, sponsors and the Jets use. Each game day I get an email saying these seats are on sale.

So why were a significant number of these seats made available to the general public and not the waitlist as is the agreement?

These seats are released for sale without the Seat Exchange mark ups... so you can see why I would rather have exclusive access to such seats rather than the Seat Exchange seats.

I'd go on record as saying I'd have no problem opening up Seat Exchage to the general public within 48 hrs of a game.

Those seats weren't made available to the general public. Ticketmaster wouldn't let me view what was available when tickets were released the day of the Ducks game without a wait list code.

As a non wait list member, the only tickets we have access to as of now are tickets released on Ticketmaster after the random draw and wait list have had their turns, and before game day.

Not true.

Several hours before the waitlist email went out there were a significant number of seats released on the ticketmaster general site which anyone could purchase.

And there were seats released the day before as well.

What are these seats? And it is silly that you have to troll ticketmaster in the days leading up to a game to be able to find them. Why not release them all at the same time?

I was on at about noon I believe, give or take an hour, it did not let me check for tickets. It asked for a code. You can believe me if you want to, I guess.

They release them as soon as they're available and able to, I assume because they want to guarantee they get sold. Honestly, wait list members get all the Seat Exchange tickets (right now) and the game day tickets, I think it's a bit much to be put out by True North releasing tickets before game day too. Can the general public not have a small chance to go to the games too? I get that the money aspect is frustrating for you, but at least you have a very good shot at going to the games you want to.

Tickets were trickled out for the Ducks on game day starting about 10am. First singles. Once those were gone some pairs came out. Even 8 seats together in sec 330. Dozens of tickets were released on TM before the waitlist email. You have to be quick to get 'em though.

What time was that e-mail sent out? Do you think that small window will continue or they'll figure it out and send the e-mail sooner next time?

I think the point I am making is that I would rather have complete access to those seats held in reserve than the current exclusive access to Seat Exchange seats. I think SE should be opened up. As a perk SE isn't that great and I can see how it does not benefit Season Ticket Holders who have basically been told this is the only real venue for selling seats for games they can not make.

But my real question is why do those seats trickle out on the open ticket master site the the days leading up to games... Are they not the very same seats that I am supposed to have access to on the day of the game (ie the ones held in reserve by the Jets). Again, I would like better access to these seats as I believe is one of the selling points of remaining on the waiting list. But either way, why do the Jets not hold onto these seats and release them at once, rather than requiring people to constantly monitor ticket master in the days leading up to a game

Fess up Jets fans, who hasn't done this constantly hitting refresh because you heard a rumor seats may get released... its pretty silly (although I have been lucky enough to get seats this way in past seasons)

Mine is time stamped 1:32pm. If you really want to go to a game don't wait for the email. Start looking the night before and the morning of the game.
