This is not that time though

This is a perfect job by Jose. No one's talking about the other eight guys on the team who aren't hitting and everyone's focusing on him. Strong leadership move.

Heard the Blair and Brunt show on the Fan driving into work this morning.

They had a former ump and current ump advocate on...can't recall his name.

He said that back when he was umping, guys like Bautista would be taught a lesson, but unfortunately with the TV showing the strikebox, that's much harder to do nowadays...

He also wondered who taught Bautista the "elements and circumstances" phrase, because he wasn't smart enough to come up with that one on his own.

He also mentioned that Bautista has no right to comment since he's been swinging at pitches out of the zone this off-season. He mentioned that if a guy like Russ Martin complained to the ump in a respectful manner, the umps might be much more receptive to the message.

I thought that call was an excellent glimpse into the psyche of the umps, right from the horse's mouth.

Jesus. It's kind of hilarious that he's an "ump advocate" considering every word he says sounds like he's promoting robo-umps.

I think you're giving Jose, a known whiner, a lot of credit here.

While his statements may end up having the effect you stated, I'm not sure that was his intent when he said it.

Then again, maybe it was the plan the whole time.

'taught a lesson' Like we need more proof the Umps are all about their own ego and being part of the show.

I saw somewhere (can't remember wher probably twitter) that Cleveland has also been getting 'bad calls', however the timing of the calls have favored Cleveland as well, ie they are getting the calls against them when they are already up 3-0 in the count, where as the Jays are getting the bad calls at 2-2.

Meh...either way Jays need to find a way to solve the problem and get some hits in. The only bad call that seems universally called a bad call was the strike 3 call on Upton Jr from Game 1.

The whole "but Bautista is swinging at balls anyway" mindset is a catch 22 because he wouldn't be chasing out of the zone if he wasn't afraid of the umps calling balls strikes. He's forced to expand his zone and the pitchers are exploiting it. It's incredibly difficult to go down 0-2 or 1-2 and then lay off three, four offspeed pitches falling away from you.

Josh Tomlin threw 11 fastballs last game. He was primarily cutter/sinker (around 85 as opposed to 88-90 fb) and curve, throwing his curve roughly 50% of the time.

Oh yeah, he was also absolutely adamant that robo-umps would never work, though he didn't really delve into why, outside of "umps wouldn't be able to control the game"

Yeah, I guess it would be kind of tough to program a computer to follow certain official MLB rules like "the umpire shall read a player's body language and adjust the strike zone accordingly."

I hope to hear the phrase 'circumstances were against us', in "reference" to umpires, from other players.

The vagueness of the phrase yet still providing an intended meaning without saying it, is absolutely genius.

Jose found a way to get across what he probably meant to say without having to actually say it. No fine or anything.

Plot twist - the guy was Colin "Dominicans are dumb" Cowherd. Seriously, he actually said that once.

Canadian politicians trying to ban the Indians name and logo as it's offensive...lol...good Lord people are sensitive nowadays. Can't say a thing without hurting someone's feelings. Embarrassing.

It is a pretty ignorant thing to say....and would have Bautista been taught a lesson exactly? More ****** calls?

You've got to be kidding me. He can't honestly be stupid enough to double down on the kind of comments that literally lost him his job.

Anybody here from Windsor or familiar with the town? Heading there for work starting tomorrow and looking for my best options for watching the game. Otherwise I'm going to miss the rest of the series as well as the leafs.

The Loose Goose or Dugout downtown will have it on. Loose Goose also has there all you can eat wings Monday night so it'll likely be packed. I'd suggest tryin to get there a bit early if you choose to go there. Otherwise, you can pretty much go to any restaurant/bar and find it on (though not sure everywhere will have the sound on). There is a Boston Pizza on Walker Road that will definitely have it on.

Yeah, how dare someone be offended by a blatantly racist stereotype of their culture.

I was kidding. It wasn't actually Cowherd. Just sounds like some stupid **** he would say.

Yeah, TheAub was right, it was Jim McKean.

I thought he was just an ex-ump, but turns out after umping he actually became the Ump SUPERVISOR for MLB, so not only did his beliefs reflect those of other umps, he actually enforced them on the umpires.

The whole interview is available right now on http://www.sportsnet.ca/590/

I would highly encourage a listen.

It's hilarious how nobody has moved to do **** during the times they've come to town during the past few years. But nope, now that the media and spotlight is firmly on this series, we needed people to get their panties in a bunch. I do think it is racist, but even the Indians themselves have acknowledged that by how much less and less Chief Wahoo is used over the years and how much they have been phasing it out. In a decade, it'll probably be gone.

I mean, just look at the Edmonton Eskimos. Last I checked, that's a pretty derogatory term right there (Eskimo). But no one gives a **** about the CFL, so no one ever cares enough to get offended. I know the chief complaint here is about Wahoo (no pun intended), but it's worth pointing out.

Except Indians is a pretty offensive name and very offensive logo to Aboriginal/ First Nations people. I am proud that our politicians are making this an issue, because no one in power has given a **** what Aboriginals think for centuries now.
