Brodin is seriously overrated:

Hard to say what Kane is worth. On ice he is a good player. Off ice - he is an *******.

Going only by that HERO chart I'd have to admit that Enstrom is also somewhat overrated but a big difference between him and Brodin is that Enstrom makes his linemates better and Brodin makes his quite a bit worse. That shows on the other HERO chart.

Hero charts != absolute player evaluation. They are used far to often here as "look, these bars are bigger so this player is better"

Yeah. Very useful for an 'at glance' impression, and I don't mind bringing them up as they hold some value, but the evaluation and discussion shouldn't stop there.

Analytics in hockey, or at least their usage around here, suffer from ecological fallacy. Way too often findings for the population is transferred to the individual level, and when that happens you can easily be led astray.

Charts like these will give you a mostly accurate picture most of the time, but the more someone differs from the norm in usage or skillset, the more he likely differs from the norm in how telling the chart is.

Furthermore, people have developed an uncanny ability to manipulate sample size to fit their narrative.

Jets get worse at D and get a "ok" forward prospect we don't need while losing Trouba & Josh. Pass imo from Jets

So the Leafs pretty much give up JVR and Kapanen and get Trouba. Trouba and Morrissey are better then Fowler and Ritchie the Leafs get the best player here.

Sent Kapanen to WPG instead. Better?

The Jets want nothing to do with Kapanen. He'll likely turn out to be a fine player, but we already have mounds of forward prospects. OTOH we have very few high end D prospects, so we can't afford to swap Morrissey for two similar forward prospects.

No interest in Brodin who is a downgrade. Pass

He does come with that 4 million cap hit for the next FIVE seasons and, honestly, how much of a down grade he is, is up for debate. Of course, that deal would be under the stipulation that WPG doesn't want to pay what Trouba wants.

It is said that a three-way trade can never be fair and benefit all three teams. Let's try to debunk this myth!

It doesn't have to involve superstars, but at least relatively high end players, prospects and/or picks.

Let's hear your attempts. ...

McDonagh + Rangers 3rd 2017 + 4th 2018
to Jets for
Trouba + Win 2nd 2017 + 3rd 2018

then, depending on what the deal is w/risto in buf

something around Trouba + for Risto +

Uh, pass from Winnipeg.

Good try but the Jets are building a young team designed to compete together in the future. No way do they give up a 22 y/o d-man in exchange for a 27 y/o - given the current age of the balance of their D group. They aren't looking to get older.

Yuck. No. Brodin sucks big time and is one if the most overrated players in the NHL. Rather keep Enstrom. And Buffalo get bent over. Kane and a 3rd for Enstrom?

Fleury not worth Nichuskin? Maybe not. The pick probably wouldn't be needed. Would come down to this

Pit:
In: JVR
Out: Fleury, Pouliot

Dal:
In: Fleury
Out: Nichuskin, Lehtonen

Tor:
In: Pouliot, Nichuskin, Lehtonon
Out: JVR

I think Toronto need to get a little more, and Pitt needs to give a little more...but this is probably ly one of the best 3ways I've seen on hfboards

As a Toronto fan, I think Toronto should be giving up a bit more to close this deal. I understand they're trading the best skater, but Pouliot and Nichushkin are pieces I'd take a chance on.
