So I watched a Doors documentary. They were more sophisticated than many bands from that era. Morrison had a knack for language like John Lennon but more florid and evocative. It’s a shame Morrison was such a mess.
Was a big Doors fan back in my teens. Only fairly recently happened upon the Isle of Wright concert. I think the joy was clearly out of Morrison at that point, and some comments I've seen described it as depressing, but I still thought it a strong performance, and saw it as a more mature version of the band. Jagger was more then willing to keep dancing around the stage, Morrison wanted to take a more serious turn.
But of course, he never could pull himself out of the downward spiral.
