So I watched a Doors documentary. They were more sophisticated than many bands from that era. Morrison had a knack for language like John Lennon but more florid and evocative. It’s a shame Morrison was such a mess.

Was a big Doors fan back in my teens. Only fairly recently happened upon the Isle of Wright concert. I think the joy was clearly out of Morrison at that point, and some comments I've seen described it as depressing, but I still thought it a strong performance, and saw it as a more mature version of the band. Jagger was more then willing to keep dancing around the stage, Morrison wanted to take a more serious turn.

But of course, he never could pull himself out of the downward spiral.

I'm taking my little guy to his first live hockey game tomorrow afternoon. Totally random game, it's the Hartford Wolfpack vs Charlotte Checkers. Wish it made sense to bring him to NJ for a Devils game, but still.

Should be a fun time, and I hope to see him get excited about hockey.

My son had a great time at his first hockey game. Of course, he was more interested in stepping on cracks in the concrete and making faces at others in the crowd than the action on the ice, but still.

Also, the baby Rangers blew a 3-1 lead going into the third and lost 6-3. So that was fun to watch the meltdown.

And @Bleedred will love this, their starting goalie was Louis Domingue! I counted at least two softies past his glove hand, and he was pulled after the 5th goal. I was laughing my ass off, I had no idea he was playing in Hartford.

So approaching 50, and the eyesight starting to fade a bit, so I tried contacts.

Eff that. Pain in the ass getting in, and with any quick eye movements it get's blurry, I guess it doesn't stay one hundred percent over the iris with quick movements. Was hoping they would be helpful for hockey, but any positive is negated by the eye movement blurryness. Plus there is a slight irritation in just wearing them.

Pain in the neck getting out too. Not even sure I got them both out last night, as I think one must have fallen out at some point during the day (which I didn't notice, but it definitely doesn't seem to be in there). So I might be heading towards whatever eye condition that happens when you don't take your contacts out.

Anyways, rant over. Just going to go the glasses route for now. Will consider lazer surgery.

I've been wearing contacts for at least 35 years and have really liked them for the most part. I use them when I go surfing and when I was playing hockey and haven't had many problems. I've had them go into the corner of my eye a few times but it's usually if they're dirty or I kept them in too long. I think I've only lost one that popped out in all that time of being in the water and all sorts of other sports.

Make sure they have your base curve correct and it does take a while to get used to them for sure. I'm so used to them that I can put them in or take them out without a mirror. I've had every type for the most part over all these years but the disposable ones work best for me, they seem to be the thinnest and most comfortable. My doctor over years has given me a couple different types and brands to try to see which ones worked best.

What the f*** man?

To see Black Flag with Greg Ginn (who is a piece of shit human, by the way) and a bunch of hired guns (who probably make less money a year than I do because Ginn takes most of it) play 40-45 year old songs?

At least the fake Dead Kennedys and Fakefits were mostly the same band, just with different singers.

Today was a great hockey day in Finland. The regular season ends tomorrow. Two teams Ilves (Lynxes) and Tappara (double-edged axe) are 1st and 2nd in the league. The winner of the game is the regular season champs, they played against each other tonight!!

Obviously my team, Ilves, lost. 1st time since 1985 (our latest cup) we had a chance of being something. But not tonight, Tappara, reigning champs, beat us 5-3.

How to cope?

The marvelous United States of America provides a 31-year-old man with... dive bars. Yes! I am sitting in the best (or the worst?) Manhattan dive, the Johnnys, as i write this message.

There is no better coping mechanism. A Bud and a JimB made me feel already a whole lot better! We'll beat those SoBs in the finals...

Edit: I should quote this message in my Green Card app. And show my 2003 stanley cup champs mock ring

I just love America. Its my kinda place. Not NYC but maybe something like Kansas City. I'd love it there.
KC has great BBQ. That’s a must try while you are here. Also find whatever is the best Cajun restaurant in the area.

No, its not a dive.

They dont serve food in a true dive.

But thanks for the recommendation, i might go later!
McSorley’s is a historic NY landmark and drinking establishment. Their in house brew is rich and smooth and unique to them. Definitely worth the effort to go there.

The US has four regional variations of BBQ. KC and Memphis asre similar with ribs thr specialty and both are fairly sweet with KC being a bit sweeter. Then TX is beef brisket with a dry rub of salt and pepper typically. Then NC is finely a chopped pork shoulder usually in a vinegar sauce with a hint of sweetness so balance the vinegar. All have their merits and are worth your time to seek out. Cajun food is spicy and has more variety but you should try boiled crawfish and jambalaya which is a rice based dish and gumbo which is a hearty stew.

My mistake in KC was that i didnt get the ribs. But my friend did and they were freaking delicious. But i had my own mountain of food to consume so left it at that one bite

I didnt know that the different BBQs also favor different pieces of meat. I just thought they're different styles of sauce/glazing.

You can get a brisket at most places in Memphis or KC but it won’t be quite the same as in Texas. You can get ribs in Texas or NC but they won’t be the same as in KC or Memphis. Like you can get Swedish meatballs at ikea but they won’t the same as you would find in a specialty restaurant in Stockholm.

Maybe this is my inner coastal elitist coming out, but I would view moving to Kansas City on par with being exiled to Siberia. No thank you.
Having family in the northeast and south from Florida to Texas I’d suggest that you can live anywhere these days, you may not have as many choices for things but the US is smaller than it has ever been in many respects.
