I often think I should get back into tying, but then I look at all the other hobbies I have going and wonder if it's a good idea.

im getting back into making instruments....ya i havent done the actually making of a guitar or bass neck, frets and all that stuff... but everything else im game ....

just got in from the shop working on an old (dismantled) one i did years ago ....want to bring it into 2023 with a refinished body and some new pickups and hardware. influenced by johnny ramone's axe.. smaller but similar body....

always wanted a toggle switch in the same position as that guitar....so i did it but the pickups and wiring was all shoddy on the 'original' .....learned a lot over the years through trial and error and improvement in skill

a very satisfying afternoon.

taking photos....will post when its done

I couldn't not do it. I spend at least an hour a day at the tying desk but sometimes a lot more.

I think it's a great way to stay involved in the sport when fishing is not possible.

Tying for me is like preparing for a trip. The excitement you get while preparing a big trip, I get that every time I tie. Everything I tie I imagine the scenario I would use it and envision how a fish will eat it. And then I get happy for a little while.

That's part of why I build rods and carve lures. I just really don't fly fish anymore so it would just be building up a collection of flies. Nothing wrong with that though.

I'm not sure if I can live anywhere else honestly....at least permanently.

The other day a plastic decoration helicopter fell the other day above a kids slide area. They were so lucky that it didn't hit anyone there jut 4 other people were apparently hurt and thankfully not too bad.

Now apparently the building the water park is in now is deemed unsafe. Just crazy, this place really does seem cursed. I wish I went before this news lol

Wonder how long it takes to even fix a building of that size when it's deemed an unfit structure and how it's even done...

That's considered unsafe? It's no Action Park, that's for sure.

But I never used the term "hoagie" in my life
I think that's a South and maybe even Central Jersey thing.

Just like Wawa.

Wawa has now expanded to North Jersey, as well as all the way down here to Florida in the last decade/decade and a half. They'll probably be expanding points West soon enough, if they already haven't.

I'd assume most of us here are originally from North Jersey (closer to NYC) or else you'd more than likely be a Flyers fan. The people from hoagie country are more than likely to have grown up Flyers fans, closer to Philly.

Although, there's some people I've met from Monmouth County and parts of Ocean that grew up Devils fans, but that's beside my point.

I always assumed it was a Pennsylvania/Philly thing.

It was mostly "sub" or "hero" for me. Seemed like a lot of the more Italian places in Northern NJ said hero.

When I first went to New Hampshire to visit my wife then girlfriend and her friends it was the first time I had heard "grinders".

Those people were weird. We had a party and there were like 20 people there. "I said, how many pies should I order? ". One girl goes we don't want pie we want pizza". Same thing happened when I got on the phone with pizzeria...I said I'll take 3 large plain pies...guy on the phone goes, you mean pizza?

At that point I took it as a mission to save my girlfriend from that bizarre place and bring her to New Jersey.

I think the first time I really got drunk was in the Action Park parking lot summer of 1987...it was one of those didn't eat all day, out in the hot sun , then had 5 beers and passed out in the back seat of my friends car and woke up with writing on my face kind of things.

Now 5 beers is an appetizer.

That's ok though...I got even and shaved my friends eyebrow off later that summer.

This has been discussed in a GDT but in the US south you have to specify cheese pizza. If you order a pizza that’s not clear down here.

Here's another guy I absolutely adore. Kelly Galloup from the Slide Inn in Cameron Montana. He's another master fly tyer. His fly shop is world renowned.

This is a guy that sells high end fly fishing equipment for a living.

Sitting at the tying desk watching the replay of the Devils game and tying some stonefly patterns.

My wife walks in and goes you really should do YouTube videos.

I said "on how to deal with a crazy wife"

That didn't go over too well. Sometimes what I think is funny other people don't.

I'm worried that weather might mess up my flight tomorrow. I'm a nervous flyer to being with, weather delays make the anxiety so much worse.

I'm not looking forward to the snow either. We're forecast to get 3-7 inches tonight, and it would be the first major snowfall of the season if it pans out.

Not complaining though, I know people in the Midwest have gotten buried this winter.
