For most people my age Our House was our introduction to Madness on MTV. When you dig into their catalogue it was much different. Like Boomtoen Rats who sounded much different than I Don’t Like Mondays. I will give MTV credit for making space for little known artists if they had good videos. The weirdest time was still around 1983-84. They’d alternate Michael Jackson with a hair metal band over and over it seemed. They had to have noticed if we did.

I spent the entire morning sharpening kitchen knifes on stones.

There is something extremely gratifying about sharpening blades

Sharpening music

Asking in here since I don't want it getting buried in the team discussion thread:

Friends in NJ: My brother and I are going to the game against the Canucks on Monday.

We're planning on coming down from CT in the afternoon and looking to kill a few hours before the game. Any recommendations for good craft breweries or brewpubs in the Newark area (preferably on the north side of the city) that are open on Monday?

Check the stickied arena thread - restaurant reco's are discussed in there.

I know there's a lot to dig thru in the Arena thread - I recall that Bello's Pub & Grill was mentioned positively, with a lot of good beers on hand though I've never been there myself. Little bit of a walk though to the arena (8 minutes according to Google Maps).

I like Redd's Biergarten, which is right next to the arena and has a good beer selection and decent enough food - you just need to get there early as it gets packed before games.

Another dozen completed for a friend.
I've done over 100 flies in the last couple of weeks and none for myself. I'm sure I'll be paid in beer at some point.

Thanks

The batch I did for that kid were spectacular...an ant pattern named "Antacid"

Fly fishing and fishing in general is not my thing - sort of funny considering where I live hunting and fishing are pervasive - but I recognize the time effort and discipline you put into this and your atchery. It’s a labor of love to do this for the younger generation.

I make my own fluke rigs time to time with bucktail and such with a fly tying vise but they're very primitive and don't need the attention to detail compared to the freshwater stuff. I love seeing this and appreciate the craft, they look great.

Thanks. I love tying, it may sound silly but to catch a fish on a hook that I lashed some material to gives me such a thrill. Lately though I find it even more gratifying when someone else catches fish on flies I tied.

I have never once charge a penny for anything I have tied, all I ask for is a picture of the fish the flies caught. :)

Start making your own fly rods! It will take the experience to another level. I'm planning a couple new rods and some swim baits for pike this year. As soon as it's warm enough in the garage to airbrush and work with epoxy again...

I swear they could just keep making the same game over and over and call it Fire Emblem X and I'd buy it. And love it. I like Engage so far. Really cool callbacks to previous games.

My brother and I are heading to NJ in a couple hours for the game tonight. We're planning to hit up two breweries in the area, Alementary in Hackensack and Brix City in Little Ferry. Hoping for good beers and a good game tonight!

This guy keeps calling about about a job opening. I kept telling the guy that I am not interested and last week he said let's just have a 30 minute conversation...

I said ok, I can have a conversation, that's reasonable...

I get the meeting invite early this morning for 2:00 PM today and there are 4 other people on the invite. That doesn't sound like a conversation?
I accepted the invite but I'm a little annoyed. I'm deciding whether to blow off the meeting or take the call and make a mockery of it?

No. Be professional. Just tell them you were only interested in a casual conversation and not prepared for a formal job interview. You can listen to what they have to say. If after 30 minutes they don’t catch your interest thank them politely and go about your day.

making mockery of it definitely sounds like it would be entertaining

I wish I had a recruiter hounding me about interviewing. I'm still searching for a new job since August.

Granted, I'm looking for pretty high level roles, and I'm fine in my current job for now, but still, I was hoping for more movement before now.

You may have heard that Johnson and Johnson has spun off their consumer division and created a new company named Kenvue. They are pretty much staffing an entire new company. Most of the high level people are coming from J&J but there are tons of opportunities there. Might be of interest? Something to check out at least.
